This mom of six persevered after losing everything to a brain aneurysm.

Mothers are regularly seen as superheroes, and everyone can agree that Jennifer Flores from Greeley, Colorado, fits the bill.

Flores was leading a seemingly normal life with her husband and six children until a fateful day on June 4, 2015. That was the day an aneurysm in her brain changed their lives forever.

KUSA-TV from Denver recently took a closer look at Flores’ story. Instead of just giving up when faced with horrible odds, she fought back and proved to doctors that there is always hope.

According to KUSA, in the two years since her aneurysm, Flores has “gone through more medical procedures than most people do in their lifetime.”

At the beginning of the video, we see what appears to be a normal, happy family. At 0:25, we see Jennifer playing outside with her children, throwing a football back and forth with one of the older kids while the younger ones run around and do cartwheels.

KUSA explains:

“Jennifer Flores portrays an image of confidence for her six kids.”

In the video, she explains:

“It’s exhausting, crazy. It’s a blessing. It really is. They keep me going.”

It is indeed her kids that kept her going through the toughest time in Flores’ life.

The KUSA article describes just what happened to Flores back in 2015. Her oldest son, Anthony, told reporters:

“It was really scary. I just heard her screaming. I love her more than anything.”

Anthony knew that something was wrong and called 911.

Flores was rushed to the hospital via helicopter and then placed in a medically induced coma. When she awoke two weeks later, she was a shadow of her former self.

Flores told KUSA:

“When I woke up, I forgot I had a husband, I forgot I had kids. When I came to I started crying and I said I want to go home to my kids, and my therapist says, ‘Honey, I don’t ever think you’re ever going to go home and be able to care of your kids on your own again.’”

At 0:55 in the video, Flores shows a depressing photo of her that shows just how serious her condition was. This image is from right after she woke up from the coma, the first time she attempted to feed herself.

Instead of giving up, Flores used her therapist’s words as inspiration to overcome the odds.

She went through a full year of medical procedures, countless visits to the doctor, and physical therapy. It was during this time that life got even more challenging. Her husband divorced her and she was left to provide for all six of her children and be their only caretaker despite having little strength.

Flores never gave up, although she admitted that: “It was tough. Highs, lows, all around it was tough.”

At the time, however, Flores thought:

“The best thing I can show my kids right now is it can be done.”

Her mindset and determination certainly paid off. She explained:

“I fought my way back up from the bottom. I had a stroke, I was paralyzed, went through divorce, became a single mom with six kids. The most amazing thing you can show your kids is – look keep fighting for what you want. You can get it.”

Now, two full years after her brain aneurysm, Jennifer is not only caring for her kids but also bettering her life.

In May 2017, she graduated from Aims Community College, something her doctors and therapists didn’t think was possible. She proudly shows off her graduation photo, that includes her children, at 1:59.

She says that her kids deserve all the credit. “They mean everything.”
