The proposal of a makeover is often met with mixed reactions. Some would gladly jump at the chance to sport a new look, hair, make-up, clothes and all, while some see the suggestion as downright degrading.
When someone asks if you want a makeover, it’s not necessarily to imply that you’re lacking in the beauty, style, and appeal department. Sometimes, it’s just a fun idea to pass the time.
But we can’t blame those who take offense at the idea because let’s face it, it is a harsh world and its standards of beauty are pretty ridiculous.
Whatever your stand is on makeovers, it’s important to remember one thing: to each his own. That, and inner beauty will always shine through and through.
That said, here’s someone who initially couldn’t be bothered with makeovers.
She’s a hands on mom who can barely make time for herself but gamely obliged when she found out about the makeover.
Kayla, a viewer of the Rachael Ray Show, got in touch to nominate her mom, Cathy for a makeover.
The loving daughter shared how Cathy’s last trip to the salon was 25 years ago and that she was still sporting the same hairstyle she had during the 1980s.
We’re talking long, long hair and poofy bangs. As for Cathy’s clothes? She was comfortable in old sweatpants and pajamas.
Before you shake your head and assume she just let herself go and failed to manage her time properly, know that the only reason Cathy stuck to one look all these years is because she devotes her time to making sure her family is well taken care of.
After all, moms have thousands of jobs to do in one day!
Who has time to shop and go to the salon when you have to spend most of your hours tending to everyone’s needs? Any free time moms get pretty much goes to catching up on sleep.
Aside from the fact that Cathy has three kids and one grandchild, she confesses that she’s also afraid of change that’s why she barely spends time and money on herself. We hear you, Cathy.
Thankfully, Kayla had the best idea and Cathy was willing to go with it.
The Rachael Ray Show team sought help from one of the industry’s best. Celebrity hairstylist Kyan Douglas, along with a talented team of stylists and colorists from Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger Salon, knew exactly what to do to accentuate Cathy’s beauty and best features.
A stylish new haircut, gorgeous makeup, and a flattering red dress… Cathy definitely felt like a whole new person!
What a fun way to boost someone’s confidence and self-esteem, and remind them of just how beautiful they are.
Cathy’s makeover is a gentle reminder for everyone that taking care of yourself should be at the very top of your priority list. Self-care may come in many forms but if a makeover is one way to make you feel happy, then by all means take the plunge.
