On her wedding day Georgia Marlbrough made a promise to herself: she’d return to the same place as a changed woman.

This stay-at-home mom, who has been overweight all of her life, lost 100 pounds in 13 months, and here’s how she did it.

When she was 6 years old, Georgia’s cheerleading uniforms had to be special-ordered because she was already a size 10.

By the time she gave birth to her third child in February 2018, she had ballooned up to a size 18.

“I’d have a 30-minute breakdown before getting dressed,” she told TODAY Health. “It wasn’t a habit I wanted to carry into my 30s.”

Georgia finally decided to take back control of her health, but it wasn’t always easy.

She challenged her own insecurities in the process.

But, now she weighs 128 pounds and she told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb that it all began with one simple step.

“I baby wore my newborn and walked about a mile at first and then I graduated to two miles.”

Georgia also found some fun exercise routines on Instagram and absolutely fell in love with kettlebells.

She now works out six days a week, doing 20 minutes of cardio and 40 minutes of strength training, which is key to maintaining her weight.

As for her diet, Georgia used to eat 6 waffles for breakfast, but now she follows a very simple CICO (calories in, calories out) diet.

“The only way that your body can eliminate body fat is by burning more calories than you consume.”

However, registered dietician Keri Glassman stresses that counting calories alone may not be enough.

The quality of the food you eat still counts.

“You do want to remember that all calories are not equal. One hundred calories of jelly beans is not going to be the same as 100 calories of apple slices and peanut butter, Glassman said.

Georgia still enjoys her favorite dishes, like Louisana gumbo and king cake, but she makes sure that protein is the main priority in her diet.

“I also try to make sure there’s not a ton of ingredients in whatever I’m eating,” she said. “If I want ice cream, I just follow the portion size.”

For those who are ready to begin their own transformation, Malbrough recommends starting out slow.

“Take one step at a time,” she said. “That’s all you have to do.”

She wore a size 18 and weighed 231 pounds when she first started her weight loss journey, but look at her now!
