Watching a group of people break into a car usually prompts people to call the police immediately. So when a mob of people on a busy Georgia highway were seen smashing a truck window it appeared to look like an angry road rage incident but that couldn’t have been farther from the truth.
Captured camera footage
In a video captured by a nearby civilian, we see a group of people smashing the windows of a pickup truck on a highway outside of Atlanta.
Saving a life
As it turns out, the scene wasn’t nefarious at all – it was intentional and lifesaving. The video shows person after person going up to the window of the truck and hitting it with whatever they can. From baby strollers to sledgehammers, the group was determined to get into the truck.
The good samaritans were actually trying to help a man with a medical emergency.
The driver was unconscious and slumped over his steering wheel, clearly not ok. An earlier video sent into Inside Edition shows the truck slowly meandering down the highway as the driver loses consciousness. As the truck cruises, people are running alongside of it to try and help.
Breaking into the truck
That scene ultimately ended up culminating in the wild video of people trying to break inside the truck – they were trying to save the man.
Jordan Carter was able to capture the entire scene. After seeing the driver was completely unresponsive, they resort to smashing in the window. As you see, however, the car window was a lot stronger than they thought. Their next step was to hop into the bed of the truck and try the back window and… SMASH! They were able to get in!
Seeking medical attention
The driver was soon removed with the help of medical professionals.
It was clear from the video that the driver was in really bad shape. It was revealed later that it was a serious medical emergency and that getting the man the help he needed was likely lifesaving.
Internet told a different story
Everyone involved with the rescue was pleased with their work, but the internet watchers twisted things up.
Once the video was posted on social media, people didn’t understand what was going on at all. The good people that helped were accused of all sorts of things, primarily road rage! Imagine being proud of your work in saving a man’s life only to be criticized for it by strangers on the internet!
It was a disappointing reality, but they didn’t do it for the fame in the first place.
At the core of it, it was a kind act that helped a man get the help he needed and potentially stopped a more dangerous accident happen further down the road. When the group had originally gotten the man out in the first place, they used his phone to call his wife and let her know what was going on. Later on, she called them back and let them know that her husband was doing well and was going to recover – crisis averted!
