There are few things more heartbreaking than seeing the Amber Alert message come across your phone.
It means that someone out there, someone near you, has lost their child.
Any parent’s worst nightmare is finding out their baby has gone missing.
It’s a terrifying reality, but sadly one that many face each day.
Thankfully, there are good people in the world who can make all the difference when it comes to finding a lost child.
Gena Wilson has an incredible story that started with her losing her baby boy.
Gena, an Illinois resident, experienced the worst fear of any parent when she went into her house to get something one day.
She had just strapped her 3-month-old child into the car and realized she had left something in the house.
The trip only lasted a minute, but that was all it took.
When Gena came back outside to head wherever she was going, her son, Ghyadi, was gone. Her heart stopped as she realized that someone had stolen her van and her baby was still inside.
“I thought he was gone,” said Gena
Like anyone would, Gena immediately contacted the police and told them the story.

The department immediately sent out an Amber alert as everyone scrambled to act.
It was such a moving moment for the community that people literally dropped what they were doing to go out and help Gena find her baby.
Brittney and Jenny were two of those people.
Brittney Ford and her aunt, Jenny Mawhee, decided to go out and search for the baby boy.
“If it was my baby, I would want everyone out there,” Jenny explained.
It was incredibly cold outside, but that wasn’t enough to stop them from helping a desperate mom out.
They rode around with their windows down, hoping to get lucky.
Whether you want to call it luck or divine intervention, they found something.
The two women heard a baby crying and slowed down to get an idea of where it was coming from.
The noise led them to a ditch on the side of the road and when they peeked over the edge, they couldn’t believe their eyes.
The baby was facedown in the ditch, crying his eyes out.
The thief had tossed the baby out of the door like trash after stealing the car.
It was an absolutely incredible stroke of luck, and one that brought Gena to tears.
“It was complete selflessness,” she said. “She took the time out to look for my baby even though she has her own family.”
Brittney and her aunt didn’t feel like they were heroes – they just wanted to help a hurting mom.
Because of their kind hearts, Gena was able to hold her baby boy again.
Now, he is safe at home and likely to never leave the sight of his mom until he’s at least 50-years-old!
Not all stories like this one have heartwarming endings, but we are thankful that some of them do.
