Anyone who chooses to become a police officer deserves respect. It’s a dangerous line of work, and every new recruit knows that they’re signing up for something that could put their lives at risk each and every day.

But they do it anyway, because they feel a need to protect people, serve their local communities, and make the world a safer place to be.

For them, it’s not just a job like any other. It’s a way of life. And that’s why, even when they’re not officially ‘on duty’, many cops are still alert to the signs of danger and ready to leap into life-saving action at a moment’s notice, just like this happily married pair of police officers.

Detective Chase McKeown and Officer Nicole McKeown have been married for six months. They met as co-workers at the Elizabethtown Police Department and fell in love, later deciding to tie the knot.

At the time, Chase was a patrol officer and Nicole was a dispatcher, but they’ve both worked their way up the ranks since then.

Police work can be tiring and challenging, but Chase and Nicole still find time for one another and were enjoying a romantic Saturday date night at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in Louisville, Kentucky when a dramatic scene began to unveil before their very eyes.

A man walked into the restaurant wearing a mask. He walked up to the cashier, who suddenly raised her hands in the air.

As experienced officers, Chase and Nicole quickly understood what was going on: the guy was trying to rob the restaurant at gunpoint.

While speaking to reporters, Nicole explained:

I saw her hands go up like this and I’m like, ‘Is he doing what I think he’s doing?’ And [Chase was] like, ‘Yeah.’

Chase added:

There was literally no question. We just looked at each other: ‘Is this what’s going on? Let’s go. We just did what we felt like we had to do.

The two crime-fighters didn’t think twice. They drew their firearms and advanced on the suspect, side by side, ordering him to drop his gun. Clearly, the criminal in question wasn’t expecting a couple of cops to suddenly appear before he could even attempt to make a getaway!

He probably expected to walk right out of that restaurant with a bag of money, but this husband and wife duo weren’t going to let him get away with it!

Seeing the cops, he stopped everything and ran right out the door, but the McKeowns chased after him, eventually cornering him in a nearby yard and holding him at gunpoint until backup arrived on the scene.

Funnily enough, Mr. and Mrs. McKeown have been dining at the same restaurant every weekend since their wedding night, but this was by far one of the most memorable meals they ever shared together!

We’re super glad to hear this story ended smoothly, without anyone getting hurt and one more bad guy behind bars, and it’s amazing to see how this husband and wife team worked so well together. Clearly, they were made for one another. Check out their heroics in the clip below.
