Everyone deserves a second chance.
A lot of times, when we pass someone who is in need on the street, we want to help. The problem is, we’re not sure how or we’re too scared. Sometimes we may feel like giving them money or food isn’t enough to suffice. Or maybe we’re not sure what they need the most.
Just a few years ago, this hair salon wanted to give back by giving a homeless man a long over-due makeover for free. They were giving this man a second chance.
This man was somewhat happy with himself, but he knew something needed to change. The salon was able to give him that exact change that he needed so desperately.
The homeless man’s name is Jose Antonio, and he had been living on the streets in Spain for 25+ years.
It was time for a fresh start.
“I’m happy with who I am because I love who I am,” Jose said. “But I can’t be happy with my life.”
La SalvajerÃa is the name of the salon that proudly gave the 55-year-old man a free makeover.
The salon did such a good job, Jose was actually moved to tears when he looked in the mirror for the first time. He looked like a completely different person and that stunned him. He couldn’t believe his own eyes.
“My god! I don’t recognize myself! I can’t believe it — this is me!” He said in complete astonishment.
He basically looked like a brand-new person.
Naturally, it took him a few moments to really process the new and improved version of himself that stood right before his very eyes.
In 2015, the salon celebrated their three year anniversary and got some footage of Jose to include in a film to celebrate the annual celebration. Helping Jose find a better life is definitely one of the things they are most proud of doing in their time as a salon.
Before the makeover, Jose looked about 20 years older than his actual age, with long, white hair and a matching long, white beard. You could barely see the nice face he had hiding under there, and his clothing didn’t help much either.
Post-makeover though… It’s almost hard to believe that he is even the same person!
The salon took some scissors to his beard and hair, still keeping them but making it so that they look shorter and more… tamed. They also dyed his hair so that it’s a nice chocolatey dark brown. It looks like he got some new clothing too, as he is seen wearing a vibrant shirt and chic pants.
The way Jose carried himself completely changed after his makeover.
Things like your hair, clothes, and hygiene can have such an impact on how you feel on the inside. It’s more than just surface-level. You can see how Jose feels sharper and cleaner, and he carries himself that way after the process is complete.
This was a major transformation.
Now that Jose feels one hundred percent good about himself and can carry himself with confidence, he can get a head start on his brand-new life. He’s taking this second chance and he’s using it for good.
We may not know how to help people in need, but sometimes it’s the smallest things that can turn their entire day (or life) around.
