Have you heard of Judge Frank Caprio? He is widely known as the “Nicest Judge in the World” and is based in Providence, Rhode Island.
Since 1985, Judge Caprio has been serving as a Municipal Court Judge in Providence.
Interestingly, you can watch his court proceedings on his online channel, where he presides over genuine cases involving real people.
The judge has heart.
While the interactions may appear scripted at times, rest assured that they are authentic.
Judge Caprio may inject humor into his conversations with the individuals involved, but his ultimate purpose is to make decisions that will shape their futures.
On his website he wrote, “I’m not here on the court to be an entertainer…my primary role is to do justice.”
But “justice” isn’t always harsh.
During one of the cases, a young man named Daniel Murray was brought before Judge Caprio.
His offense? Parking violations.
Daniel Murray had accumulated a total of 7 violations, consisting of 5 tickets in particular.
Judge Caprio informed him that he owed a sum of $250 in fees and fines.
Uncertain about how he would manage to pay this amount, Daniel responded simply:
“Thank you, your Honor.”
Daniel then asked to see if there was any flexibility, “One quick question, Your Honor, is there any way – can that be deferred a little bit? I’m just in a bit of a financial situation.”
Daniel then revealed that he had walked all the way from the East Providence to the courtroom and that he had under one dollar in his account at the moment.
He lived 5 miles away from the courthouse, and since he had no way of transportation, he walked 5 miles to reach the it.
The journey was an hour and a half.
When Judge Caprio inquired whether he could afford an Uber ride to return home, Daniel expressed his inability to do so due to financial constraints.
Instead, he shared his intention to undertake the long walk back home once again.
Daniel allocated all his funds toward the youth lacrosse programs he manages, leaving him with limited personal resources.
Judge Caprio, moved by Daniel’s circumstances, made a compassionate decision.
He chose to assist Daniel by providing him with $25, enabling him to take an Uber ride back home and sparing him from the lengthy walk.
Daniel expressed immense gratitude.
Daniel gratefully said, “Thank you very much. You saved me a great deal of time today – and money.”
Judge Caprio’s generosity went further.
It extended beyond the immediate assistance he provided to Daniel. He revealed that he had established the Filomena Fund, named after his mother, with a remarkable purpose.
The Filomena Fund receives contributions from individuals across the globe who wish to support those facing challenging circumstances.
In a remarkable gesture, Judge Caprio announced his intention to allocate a portion of these funds to cover all of Daniel’s fines, ensuring that he would no longer bear the burden of financial obligations.
This act of kindness demonstrates Judge Caprio’s commitment to helping people in need.
Daniel was left utterly speechless.
He was unable to comprehend the immense generosity displayed by Judge Caprio.
Initially stunned by the unexpected gift of $25, Daniel’s disbelief reached new heights when Judge Caprio also offered to cover his $250 fine.
The overwhelming wave of gratitude and disbelief washed over him, leaving him in awe of the judge’s remarkable acts of kindness.
However, Judge Caprio did have one condition attached to his extraordinary gesture.
Judge Caprio then said, “That’s our part, you have to do your part. You have to help somebody else. There are an awful lot of people out there who have similar problems and you are going to be in a situation to help them. Don’t forget them. Remember how you felt? So you have to give back.”
Entering Judge Caprio’s courthouse proved to be an extraordinary blessing for this man.
Now, even more individuals are destined to receive blessings, all thanks to Judge Caprio.
