Even a small act of kindness could be a blessing to someone.
We hustle every day because of many reasons and for Donte Franklin, it’s to survive after his mom passed away when he was 16 years old. He was raised by his siblings since then. The young man wanted to make a better version of himself to make his mom happy.
To do this, he focused on improving himself and he’s ready to go the extra mile just to make it happen.
When we said “extra mile”, we literally mean it.
Donte works at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant as a cook. Cooking daily in a regular shift must be so tiring, but for this young hardworker, his travel to work and going home was his predicament every single day.
One day, under the scorching heat of the Sun on an Oklahoma road, Michael Lynn saw Donte walking down the road – he was shirtless! When he came back, he saw the young man again, still walking.
He thought the young lad was still far from reaching his destination so he decided to pull up beside him to ask if he needed a ride.
Donte answered, “Yes, sir!” and hopped into the vehicle. The two had a quick chat and Michael was shocked by what he learned about Donte.
He discovered Donte walks approximately 16 to 17 miles every time he needed to work.
That’s also equivalent to an average of five and a half hours of walking a day! For the record, given that proximity, he was never late or absent at work! He is that type of worker that will be loved by any employer, wouldn’t you agree?
When they arrived at Donte’s workplace, Michael asked him if he had money to buy his food to which he answered “No” so he handed him over $20.
He was amazed by the young man’s dedication and hard work that he couldn’t help but post his beautiful encounter with Donte on his Facebook account.
“I’m thinking this young man is truly on a mission to survive!” he penned on a heartfelt Facebook post. “During the trip over there he told me a lot about himself because I asked … I just want to wish him well … may God bless him and I hope his days get better for him!”
The thought of the young man also pushed him to create a GoFundMe account for him with hopes of raising enough money to buy him a car.
Initially, the goal was to raise $2,000, but what they were able to reach was far more than what they had expected. If you think they raised two, three, or four times their first goal then you are terribly mistaken!
They were able to raise over $53,000! That’s $50,000 more than their initial target. Donte couldn’t believe his eyes upon seeing the amount raised by the GoFundMe account set by Michael for him.
“I can really help my family with this,” Donte said. “It’s just a really good blessing.”
Just like Donte, Michael was also thankful not only because he was able to help but also for having a new friend.
“As long as he wants to, I want to keep him in my life and I want to be in his life,” Michael said. “This is what I told him, if the Lord opens the door for you, walk through it, walkthrough, and I think it’s open for him and the rest is up to him.”
Life is really full of surprises and good samaritans still exist.
