More than any other time in history, people are looking for new ways to live comfortably but without spending a fortune. For some, that means transforming metal shipping containers into homes while for others, it’s using out-of-service school buses. But for one man, he had a somewhat different idea.
Utilizing a double-decker bus
That’s right, a man named Adam Collier-Woods purchased a 1982 West Midlands metro bus that was just about to go out of service. And for good reason…it had nearly 700,000 miles on it. Although it had transported kids to and from school for several years, it was on its last leg.
Repurposing it
Repurposing is all the rage today. People take ordinary items that no one wants and turn them into something usable. In this case, it was an old bus. Fortunately, Adam found it just before it was going to be scrapped.
An incredible price
Not only did he find the bus online but he also got a great deal on it. Adam had a plan. His goal was to convert it into a rental home, complete with three bedrooms.
Gorgeous countryside
Visiting Europe is someone on a lot of people’s bucket list. But many of them don’t want to stay in a traditional hotel. Instead, they want a unique experience, preferably something in the beautiful countryside where they can relax and enjoy nature.
Adam provided just that
But first, he had to transform it. In its original state, it wasn’t exactly the most attractive thing. One advantage, he had the skillset to do all of the work himself, which saved him a lot of money.
Choosing a theme
Considering the bus would be nestled in the English countryside, he chose a bright green so it would blend in. The followed suit with the interior. When finished, not only did the bus have three bedrooms but also a comfy seating area and dining room.
Surprisingly roomy
Rather than feeling cramped inside, it’s just the opposite. There’s ample room for guests, whether using the space for themselves of having family or friends visit. He even added a wood hot tub outside.
Innovative features
Adam wanted to incorporate some innovative features. One example, the dining room table can be removed and then stowed to open the space more. This bus also has wraparound windows for excellent natural lighting.
But there’s more
Adam paid close attention to every detail to ensure his guests felt at home. That included adding a real wood-burning stove, electricity, and hot water.
Promoting his rental
Once finished, Adam posted photos and videos of the bus on his website. As he pointed out, “There’s no getting away from the fact that you’re on a bus, and a lot of the original bus fittings have been reused throughout the quality conversion which makes it a fun and original place to spend your holiday.”
