It’s important that we celebrate people who go out of their way to help others.
It’s true there are plenty of people out there who don’t care about others, are concerned only with their own well-being, and wouldn’t help out a stranger in need if they stumbled upon one.
The man in this story is not like that, however.
The good samaritan in the video discovers a young boy walking around South Africa with only a pair of slippers on. Some people wouldn’t give the boy a second glance but this good samaritan decided to offer the boy assistance.
The boy had no place to stay.
The boy’s name was Rego and he informed the man that he had been staying at a friend’s house in Magaliesburg, South Africa but was forced to leave.
He wasn’t able to grab his shoes in time and had to flee the house without them.
By the time Rego was discovered, he’d walked over 55 miles.
He said he was on his way to Alberton, South Africa. Google Maps states it is a 16 hour and 10-minute walk from Magaliesburg to Alberton and that’s assuming the person walking has a pair of shoes on.
The boy explained that he overheard his friends’ parents arguing about him staying at their place.
He realized that he was unwanted and decided to leave.
The man asked the boy where his parents were and the boy replied that they had died when he was very young.
The man took the boy to a local shopping center to get some shoes.
They picked out a pair of size 7 sneakers and grabbed some socks. After that, the man helped him pick out a bunch of new clothes and a whole new outfit.
After that, a trip to Burger King was in order.
Then the man gave the boy some money so that he could purchase a phone. The man then even arranged transportation for the boy to Alberton and instructed him to call him to let him know when he arrived safely.
Who is the mystery good samaritan?
The video was posted online by a motivational speaker known as BI Phakathi, who posts similar videos regularly to his channel of over 400,000 subscribers. In his videos, an unnamed person helps out people in need by purchasing food, clothing, or other items for them.
The mystery good samaritan is never shown in the videos but his voice is heard.
Phakathi, however, says that the man in the video is named “Malcolm X” similar to the American civil rights hero. This Malcolm X doles out money to the needy.
A simple guy with a big heart.
Phakathi described Malcolm X as:
“(A) simple guy with a big heart for people. He has been dishing out money to the poor and students like Father Christmas. His name is Malcolm X and he has been changing the narrative on giving to the poor. He is not giving food parcels only but cash at hand.”
“Malcolm has been been making a difference in all these people in every chance he gets. I would like to salute this man and many more who will follow in his leadership…”
Perhaps the actions of this man will inspire more people to become good samaritans themselves.
As for the boy, Phakathi would later post an update saying he is staying with a grandmother and doing well.
