Do you believe in fate? What if we call it “destiny”? How about people who are “meant to be”?
In 1988, a long time ago for sure, a dad was at a water park with his family enjoying their time together. No cellphones yet so he was recording his daughters using a real heavy camera.
The place was Sesame Place Amusement Park, and the eighties was a time when everyone went out and just had a blast wherever they were.
It was a totally different time.
Now, look closely at the video where the dad films his wife and daughter. A boy in glasses walks into his shot then turns away. His name is Ryan. The girl is Jourdan’s sister.
10-year-old Jourdan was going down a water slide as the 13-year-old boy makes the shot.
Jourdan lived 33 miles from where young Ryan grew up.
What were the chances that they’d cross paths again?
Years passed and in 2004, Ryan and Jourdan were set up on a blind date, which as fate would have it, worked out really well for them! Then one day, Jourdan decided to show her boyfriend Ryan a childhood video.
Now, a lot of guys don’t like watching home videos. They’d rather pick a movie or do something else with their girl.
But this time, it was different. Sure Ryan was a bit annoyed but when he saw himself on the screen, he was shocked.
“I said ‘Oh my God that’s me.'”
Ryan and Jourdan got married in 2007. They have three kids.
Who knew that 27 years later, from that day at the park that they would end up together? No one!
This is the stuff romantic comedy movies are made of!
Les Trent of Inside Edition interviewed the couple.
“You looked at pictures of you from this age and that’s what you looked like?”
Ryan says that “unfortunately”, that’s what he really looked like.
Les continued, “You’re an accountant, right? You work with numbers, what are the statistical odds that you two would’ve met?”
Ryan replied, “Astronomical.”
And he is so right.
There was no telling that on a very hot July day in 1988, Cupid shot an arrow or two and found their mark. The couple lived a considerable distance apart and yet were set up on a blind date.
“It was like, in that moment the whole universe existed just to bring us together.”
That line is from the 2001 film Serendipity. A charming movie that has fate as its plot. The line was said by Kate Beckinsale’s character, Sara Thomas.
Go watch it if you haven’t already, because it will give you the same feels as this love story between Ryan and Jourdan. Minus Hollywood’s magic.
This one is so much better since no one wrote a script. Well maybe the gods did or whoever it is that’s in charge of finding us mortals our life partners.
So if you’re still single, don’t despair. Chances are… Chances are, you’ll see. It’s almost like magic.
