After college, Todd had worked his way up to becoming a senior software developer at Buildium. Now stable, it was his little brother’s turn to struggle through college and eventually buy his own home.

Being the great brother that he is, Todd let Alex live with him rent-free after he graduated college back in 2017 but decided to do something remarkable shortly after.

After 6-months of free rent, Todd told Alex that he needed to start paying rent

Alex had no problem paying his fair share, after all his brother was doing him a favor and it was still way cheaper than living on his own. So he started paying him every month, without knowing that his brother was really planning to hand it all right back to him.

Not only did Todd open a savings account to save his brother’s money for him, he also put an additional $150 per month into the account to ensure that his brother would never have to struggle like him.

When it came time for Alex to get his own home, Todd had been saving for him for almost 3 years

Todd waited patiently until Alex decided it was time for him to take the leap and get his own home. That’s when he hit record on his camera and told his brother what he had been doing, bringing everyone in the house to tears. Their mother, Barbara Burkemper posted the video to Facebook captioned:

“Warning: Proud Mom and Dad moment! After a very long weekend of getting outbid on a few homes, Alex got his contract accepted on a home tonight! Which brings us to the moment we’ve been waiting almost three years for: Todd told Alex about the savings account he started for him when he moved in with Todd and started paying rent after college graduation. Unbeknownst to Alex, Todd took Alex’s full amount of rent and then added some of his own money each month so that Alex would have a nice down payment saved up when he decided to buy his own home. Let’s just say that a few tears were shed by both of them, but not nearly as many as were shed by Tim and me. We are so happy these two have always been not only brothers, but also best friends, and we could not be prouder of the kind and caring men they have become!!!”

Alex couldn’t believe what his brother had done for him, they both cried tears of joy as they embraced

As soon as Todd reveals what’s really going on his brother breaks down and begins to cry. The heartwarming video was uploaded this past May and has since gone viral.

What a touching story, this is the perfect example of an amazing big brother that truly wants the best for his younger brother. Now Alex won’t have to struggle as Todd did, which is exactly why he did what he did.
