The special request section when making an online hotel reservation is typically reserved for when you need an extra pillow or a rollaway bed… something simple. However, what would happen if you requested something completely out of the ordinary?
You know, something totally bizarre — for example, a framed photo of bacon? One funny man set out to answer that question recently, and we have to say, the results were surprisingly hilarious.
From creative structures to ridiculous pictures, the hotel staff fulfilled every one of his absurd asks.
It all started when the man booked a hotel room for him and his girlfriend a month in advance. He wrote some pretty outlandish things in the special request box as a joke. Then completely forgot about it.
He asked them for three M&M’s, just in case he got hungry, plus a picture of bacon to remind him of his favorite food.
Low and behold, when he walked in the door of the hotel room a month later, he saw exactly that!
It was completely unexpected.
He never thought that the staff would actually follow through on the request, and really, he barely even remembered that he had asked.
The most hilarious part was the picture of bacon.
The staff centered it on the bed. Not only did it look delicious but it was also framed!
It was an amazing experience.
The hotel staffs’ creativity helped to make the vacation extra special for the couple. They were blown away by the kindness.
Unsurprisingly, after the first amazing experience, the man was tempted to try it again on his next hotel booking at a different location. This time, the 28-year-old asked for a pillow fort, and once again, the hotel complied.
It was too easy!
He decided to push his luck a little bit and up the ante.
At the next hotel, he requested a pillow fort with five extra pillows and a towel folded like an elephant. The staff during this stay completed the requests as well.
What else could the man try out in the special requests section of the online hotel booking system?
It turns out, pretty much anything. For example, a picture of a dog dressed as a boat captain. It sounds crazy, but where there’s a will there’s a way. Somehow, the hotel managed to fulfill the hilarious demand.
Just for good measure, the man decided to continue the trend on an additional stay.
The final one involved a towel folded like a swan and a very cute picture of a cat.
The whole series of special requests got us really curious, so we decided to investigate.
Do the hotels mind when people make random special requests or do the staff find it just as amusing as the guests do?
At least one hotel employee reported that she really likes it.
She recalled a time when a guest asked her to provide a fake autographed sports photo. Not only did she manage to provide one, but she even got it laminated!
“You know, there’s a lot of things I hate about my job but something like this really makes me love it sometimes,” the employee said. “I hope that guest has a really great experience with us and tells his friends.”
While not every hotel may appreciate bizarre special requests, some certainly don’t mind. We imagine that it probably depends on how busy the staff is as well as a number of other factors.
