Man goes viral playing piano duets with mystery neighbor through his walls

Home is our safe space. It’s a place to come relax and sometimes all you want is some quiet after a long day, but what if you heard your neighbor playing beautiful piano melodies through the wall?

One man was experiencing just that. He enjoyed it so much that he wrote this mystery neighbor a note saying how much he appreciated it and made a request for them to play a special song.

This would be the start of a special friendship through music.

When they performed a piano duet through the walls, it went viral on TikTok.

Giorgio had been enjoying the melodies for quite some time.

Finally, he requested his neighbor to play Celine Dion’s hit, “My Heart Will Go on”.

Giorgio Lo Porto is an Italian living in the UK who makes TikTok videos. On January 31st, he posted a video of himself listening to his new neighbor play a beautiful melody on the piano and asked his viewers to guess the song.

The following week, he posted another video saying he left a note requesting to play the Titanic hit.

In the background, you can tell the mystery pianist got the message.

This was the start of a beautiful series of piano duets.

This was only the beginning, as their friendship blossomed over the mutual appreciation of the piano. Giorgio wrote back another note of gratitude and awe for their skills.

This time the neighbor wrote back saying, “This is actually fun, we should keep doing this.”

Giorgio is also a piano player himself but hasn’t picked his hobby back up in a long time. This was the perfect opportunity to get back into it and he wrote him back, suggesting a duet this time and telling him to start when he stops.

The magical moment that was recorded next went viral.

Giorgio then recorded himself playing “The River Flows in You”, unsure if his new friend would even hear him and respond.

His mystery neighbor wouldn’t disappoint. He responded a few seconds after he stopped continuing the melody that Giorgio was just playing.

In fact, this wholesome moment gained so much attention it went viral with over 1.7 million views on TikTok.

They scheduled to play piano together at 2 PM every weekend.

Never actually even seeing each other in person still, they agreed to “meet up” and play together. The pandemic has been extremely isolating for many and this innocent human connection helped them not feel so alone.

Giorgio had written in one of his videos during their duets saying,

“This was our way of saying ‘I don’t know who you are, but I’m here. You’re not alone. This is for you too.”

Not only did it lift their spirits, but the surrounding viewers too, in these unprecedented times.

After spending so much time watching the series, people began wondering who the person behind the other half of these beautiful duets could be.

Many speculated who they could be in the comments.

This mystery left others stumped and finally, the answers would come.

The mystery neighbor was a 78-year-old widower named Emil.

Originally from Poland, Emil was staying there as a temporary place while he was selling his house.

Back in December, his wife passed away because of Covid-19 and the only thing he had left was the piano. The only reason that it would happen at 2 pm was that his late wife loved his piano playing.

Emil had told Giorgio that he kept him motivated and a little less lonely during these times. Being touched by Emil’s story, he reassured him he’d play with him until he could sell his house.

Left inspired, Giorgio composed a piece in honor of Emil’s story.

This entire interaction of human kindness and getting to know someone through music stirred Giorgio to compose, naming it “Dear Emil”.

Being his first piece ever he wrote, he said it’s “about fighting loneliness, about kindness, and about not taking anything for granted”.

The meaning behind the music is truly touching and you can hear it in every note hit.

Sadly, Emil passed away, but Giorgio still plays in his honor.

Giorgio continued to play and reunite his passion with music. On March 14th and with a sad demeanor, he posted that Emil had died in his sleep. This interaction would be something Giorgio would never forget.

He posted this video in honor of his dear friend saying,

“Dear Emil, I knew very little about you, but you changed my life. You gave me back my passion, and we shared that with the world. You’ll be in my heart. I’ll keep playing, thinking of how powerful music can be. You said I was your light, but you’ve been mine too. Bye Emil.”
