Delivery apps gave us the convenience to buy things with ease.
Everything we want is just a matter of a tap and click, whether it’s food, groceries, or other items we need at home. This way, we don’t need to worry about traffic, gas (and its increasing prices!) or going outside.
This app-dependence grew at the height of the pandemic.
We ran to these apps to buy stuff because we were on a lockdown and got no choice but to stay indoors. It was also the safest way to shop, especially with the virus spreading like wildfire.
While these apps make it convenient for us, they can cause inconvenience for some.
This is true for most delivery guys or riders. There were instances wherein people would order via an app and cancel at the last minute or send it to the wrong address. And we all know who carries that burden and trouble – the delivery guy assigned to the order.
A little courtesy could go a long way.
Check the details before you place your order. And if you really got it all wrong, admit the mistake and let the rider know right away. If you say it kindly, they will surely understand.
That’s exactly what this guy from Maryland did.
Shahid Davis ordered food from Chipotle via their app. He was expecting his food soon and waited until the delivery guy texted him that he had already arrived with his order. This was to Shahid’s dismay.
You see, he entered the wrong address.
He explained in his Facebook post that he forgot to change the delivery address to his Maryland home. The order was delivered to his Iowa address. He was mad about it at first (mostly to himself for committing that mistake). He sent a reply to the rider that he could have his lunch.
He got a simple ‘thanks’ reply but received another message shortly after.
The delivery guy thanked him again. It turned out that it was his late brother’s birthday who was laid to rest near Shahid’s Iowa address. He stopped by his brother’s grave and had lunch with him.
He said, and we quote, “You have no idea how much this means to me.”
Shahid was not expecting how things turned out at all. He was just happy that his mistake turned out to be a blessing for someone else.
His Facebook post now has over 149,000 shares, and the comments are just flooded.
“God puts you where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there. Not a coincidence that you forgot to change your address, and it was not a coincidence that he was your delivery driver. It was all part of the plan,” Thomas Keeler commented on his post.
Indeed, one act of kindness goes a long way.
It might be a mistake that would’ve gone the wrong way if Shahid didn’t deal with it with kindness. But he did, and it turned out to be a beautiful accident for this delivery guy.
