A man named Kevin was down on his luck, so locals would stop and give him food or money. Then one day Kevin was gone, and there was a different sign in his place.

Since February 2021, unemployment rates have been on a decline. While the unemployment rate was 6% last April, it reached a pandemic low in January 2022 (3.9%), showing a clear trend.

Still, many people out there are either struggling to find a job or just can’t make ends meet although they work hard.

Some of them are homeless and live on the streets, hoping that someday they will be able to afford a house, while others just try to reach as many people as possible letting them know they are available to start working and just wish they will soon have a job.

One of those people was Kevin. Last year, the man would be seen on a daily basis at a corner, holding a sign saying he was drug and alcohol-free, ex-military, and looking for work.

Many people saw him as they were passing by, and some of them helped him sometimes.

Jesse Dixon had helped Kevin on a few occasions. His children would give the man snacks and drinks, while Dixon had given him money a few times.

“He’s just a nice guy. It seems like he’d fallen on hard times so we were just trying to help him through it,” Dixon told WKBW.

Until one day, when Kevin just stopped appearing at his regular spot. This was quite unusual, as locals were used to seeing him there almost every day.

“If I didn’t see him for two or three days at a time it was unusual. I usually saw him a couple times a week,” Dixon explained.

But, soon, it was all made clear to those who missed Kevin. He had just found a job so he wasn’t coming back.

The formerly unfortunate man left a sign at the spot where he used to sit for everyone to see. The sign read:

“Thank you everyone who has helped. I start working Monday.”

This sign touched the hearts of those who had met him. It was so good to know that the man left because he was turning a new page in his life and he was making a fresh start.

“I’m really glad to hear that he’s found some work,” said Jesse Dixon.

It seems that, after a long time of waiting, Kevin had finally drawn the attention of someone who could offer him a job. And for this man, this was the best day ever.

He could soon stand on his feet again, and take his life back in his hands after a long time of misfortune.

But Kevin knew that, by standing at that spot for some time asking for help, he had made friends. There were locals who knew who he was and who wanted to help him. So, he didn’t want to leave without saying goodbye to them in his own special way.

And what better way than a sign that thanks all of those people who had been kind to him all this time.

At the same time, his sign could also be an inspiration for others going through hardship at the moment. A reminder that you should never give up hope and keep fighting. Better days are ahead.
