“Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you!” – Pravinee Hurbungs
You go out, and you see so many people needing help.
We see some of them sleeping on the streets, some trying to get what they can from bins, and some of them would try to approach you.
Many viral videos today feature stories of homeless people getting help, but there are also some, where we would see them being judged and humiliated.
It’s always sad to see people bowing their heads in sadness, especially when the people who should help them throw hurtful words at them.
Daniel Roose works for Veolia Environmental Services, a waste company in Australia.
One night six years ago, he saw a woman, Jess, who has been homeless with her partner for over 18 months.
The man heard her story, and he stayed to learn more.
According to Jess, she recently reconnected with her family in New Zealand and wanted to go to them, but the obvious problem was that she didn’t have the money to return home.
“I saw her across the road there for a bit. I was on the other side doing some stuff for work,” Roose said in an interview with NZHerald.
Daniel said he felt terrible seeing other people ignoring and walking past Jess.
“I just felt bad. I don’t like judging people. There’s a lot behind people that no one ever knows. I feel sorry for people like that,” Daniel added.
It’s true. There are many people who are in this position, but it’s wrong to judge that they are scamming people or that they are just lazy.
We really don’t know the reason they are in this position.
Daniel came near the group and asked Jess. That’s when the homeless lady told him everything.
“She told her story. I took her to the ATM and said, ‘Here’s your money to go home, enjoy your life,’” the good Samaritan told the reporter.
No other questions were asked.
One volunteer, Siham Carollisen, 30, filmed the emotional moment when Daniel handed the money to Jess.
Siham said that she and Mirwan, her brother, saw Jess and her partner living on the streets since they started helping homeless people last May 2016.
The volunteer said that Jess’s partner was Australian, but sadly, he was evicted from their home when he wasn’t able to pay rent.
Sadly, other landlords blacklisted them.
In the viral video, you could see Daniel getting some money from the ATM and handing it to Jess.
“Jess, go home,” Daniel told her. “You’re a good person. Go home.”
Jess was teary-eyed and wanted to hug Daniel. “Thank you,” she said to him. “Thank you.”
Then, Daniel left, and Jess was holding the money she needed to go home and get a new fresh start.
Some might say that it was a risk that Daniel took. After all, he didn’t know if Jess’s story was real or not, but the good Samaritan was right.
He wasn’t in the position to doubt or judge anyone.
Daniel helped, and that shows how good of a man he is. Watch the full video and don’t forget to share.
