It was a rescue that was made possible by enjoying the right hobby at the right time.
Technology has given us different ways to view and enjoy the world.
Josh Logue is a young man who’s taking advantage of those views.
Logue, a teenager from Colorado, is an avid amateur filmmaker who loves to capture landscapes and other sceneries using his camera drone.
But instead of footage of a subject, he inadvertently flew over a dire situation.
Logue sent out his drone to film the flood waters because of a recent downfall. He intended to film the nearby Denver Hudson Canal.
The area is usually a dry creek bed but because of a recent heavy downpour, water is coursing through the estuary.
It was only natural for someone to be curious about how the creek looked.
Then, as his drone hovered over Weld Country Road 2, he saw something quite alarming.
He saw a big gaping hole that spanned the width of the road and is about four or five feet deep.
When his drone got closer, he saw a jeep inside the hole.
“I said, ‘What is that?’ And I flew down over it and it’s a car in the hole,” said Logue to CBS.
The car was upside down and the hole was not wide enough to roll the car over.
They don’t know if anyone is inside but by the looks of it, it’s not easy to get out of that accident either.
Logue then shared what he saw with his father and some neighbors.
His group quickly got into a car and drove to the site.
Fortunately, one of his neighbors, Ryan Nuanes, is the assistant fire chief at the Denver Fire Department.
The firefighter is on his day off but when he learned of the accident, he didn’t hesitate to jump into action.
The Jeep Cherokee’s horn was going off when they reached the sinkhole.
They hoped that whoever was driving the car got out safely. That is until they heard voices.
A man and a woman were trapped inside the capsized vehicle.
The couple shared their grueling and terrifying experience. Just earlier, the hole was steadily filled with rainwater.
With no way to crawl out of or flip the vehicle, they could only helplessly hope that assistance arrive on time.
Help was on the way.
At one point, they only had six inches of breathing room. The team wasted no time as the weather might turn and fill the hole with water.
They used Logue’s truck to pull the stranded jeep out from the hole.
Nuanes shared how lucky the couple was despite the circumstances.
He said that the road was closed the night before which lessened the chance that another motorist would see them.
“If the water rose just a little bit more, it would have been a recovery, not a rescue,” said Nuanes to CBS.
The couple was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials believed that the situation would’ve turned for the worst if not for Logue and his hobby.
