Imagine hiring someone to clean your apartment and they end up doing a fantastic job, just not in your apartment.
This is the amusing tale of Louis Angelino III, a 27-year-old from South Jersey.
Louis, who recently moved into his first apartment in Barrington, New Jersey, works at a liquor store. To make some extra cash, he started cleaning apartments for close friends.
Word of Louis’s cleaning prowess spread, and soon, a co-worker of one of his friends, named Mark, approached him for the same service.
Mark provided Louis with instructions to find a key under a mat to access his condo in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
On June 28, Louis arrived at the condo, found the key just as described, and got to work.
For two and a half hours, Louis meticulously cleaned the apartment.
“I swiffered, I vacuumed,” he shared. “I cleaned the stove, the microwave, inside of the microwave, toilets.”
After finishing, Louis decided to relax on the couch, waiting for Mark to return.
When Mark called to inquire why Louis hadn’t shown up to clean, Louis was baffled, stating he was right there in the condo, even playing with what he believed was Mark’s cat.
The twist? Mark didn’t own a cat.
Louis soon realized his blunder. Instead of cleaning Mark’s apartment, he’d accidentally cleaned another unit in the same complex.
The apartment belonged to Tom Kenny and his wife, Beth Motzel. Louis had mistaken the address number 2 for a 7.
Coincidentally, Tom and Beth had also left a key under their mat for their contractor.
Tom returned from work that day to find a note on his door from Mark, urging him to call.
Entering his apartment, Tom was taken aback by the fresh scent and the spotless surroundings.
Confused, he called Beth, asking if she had cleaned the house.
Beth humorously recalled Tom’s words: “Beth, you’re not going to believe this. Somebody broke in our condo and cleaned it!”
She responded with, “Tom, nobody breaks in and cleans it. They clean you out, but they don’t clean it.”
The couple soon pieced together the story after speaking with Mark.
Louis reached out to them, apologizing for his innocent mistake. However, Tom and Beth were far from upset.
In fact, they were delighted with the unexpected cleaning service.
Their story quickly gained traction, with friends, family, and media outlets reaching out to hear about the hilarious mix-up.
Beth hopes their story will bring joy to others, especially in challenging times.
“We feel really happy that amidst all of the sadness that the pandemic has brought, we are happy to give people some lightness and a reason to smile,” she remarked.
For Louis, cleaning is more than just a job; it’s therapeutic, especially as he manages bipolar disorder.
Embracing his newfound internet fame, Louis shared his story on TikTok, garnering over 230.8K likes.
He’s even set up a GoFundMe page to launch his cleaning business, aptly named “The Cleaning Fairy.”
Tom and Beth, grateful for the unexpected service, were among the first to donate.
Whether it’s an accidental cleaning or a viral TikTok video, it’s these stories that add a touch of humor and lightness to our lives.
