Getting your heart broken by someone you hold dear is perhaps one of the most painful things that could ever happen to someone.
Being heartbroken feels like a heavy ache in your chest that won’t go away. It’s like a storm of sadness inside you, making everyday things harder. Memories of happy times now hurt, and even simple moments can feel really tough.
It’s like the colors in your world fade, and you carry around a big emptiness. Smiles become hard, and it feels like a part of you is missing. Heartbreak is a deep pain that stays with you, making everything a bit harder to bear.
It may sound exaggerated to some, but it happens.
Just take this heartbreak story as an example.
A decade ago, a 38-year-old man faced heartbreak when his fiancée ended their engagement just before the wedding.
Despite growing up in the same small town, they moved in different social circles. After college, he returned home to care for his ailing father.
He soon reconnected with his ex, who was then working at the hospital where his father was having chemo sessions.
They started dating and lived together. He even planned on surprising her by acquiring her dream lake house.
As their wedding neared, revelations from his fiancée broke his heart into smithereens.
His fiancée’s bachelorette party was held in Miami where her ex-boyfriend from high school lives.
Unfortunately, what he thought was just a simple bachelorette party ended up in a piece of terrible news.
His fiancée cheated on him.
Later on, his ex-fiancée moved to Florida and married her high school boyfriend. The heartbroken man ended up working in the city.
Eventually, he retained ownership of the lake house and renovated it remotely with the help of his parents during the pandemic.
During a 4th of July celebration, photos from the lake house reached his ex’s cousin through his sister-in-law’s Christmas card. Learning about the property, the ex’s mother and sister made an offer to buy it, which he declined.
The ex contacted him after nine years, accusing him of withholding the property. Despite the pressure, he refused to sell, leading to social media complaints from his ex and her family.
After long years of keeping his heartache to himself, the man decided to share his story with the rest of the world by posting it on Reddit.
Although sharing your story with strangers might not be the smartest idea, the man didn’t hold back and let it all out online.
However, he shared his heartbreak story without the intention of putting his former fiancée in a bad light.
His story was shared on Reddit’s AITA (Am I the A**hole?) thread, where it gained over a thousand comments.
They seemed to have unanimously voted NTA (Not The A**hole).
Reddit user dart1126 commented:
“NTA. It sounds like they possibly think you bought it to spite her. Show them the property records/ whatever proof on social media as to the purchase date. Say I bought this as a wedding gift surprise for my then bride-to-be. Since she cheated and broke up with me weeks before the wedding I have no interest, desire, or reason to give it to her.”

“Your original intent behind buying the house was very sweet. I’m so sorry your ex-fiancée bailed before your wedding, but I think you dodged a bullet there. You have now owned the house for years and put a lot of cash and sweat into it. Enjoy it. You were not obligated to tell her when she bailed on your relationship.”
What’s your vote in this story? Is the heartbroken guy really “NTA”?
