Have you ever seen two people together that make you believe real love is possible? Perhaps they’re not a young or beautiful couple, and they might not be rich or have perfect lives. As a matter of fact, they probably have normal lives like the rest of us…but their love is inspirational.
These people are special. Unfortunately, you don’t see true love like that every day. So, when it’s something you experience, you should pay close attention. Maybe it’ll help you find a new appreciation for the person you love.
Bill and Glad Forward
This couple has been together for more than 50 years. During that time, they’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs. Even though they’ve had their share of rough patches, they’ve stayed together through it all. That’s incredibly special to see.
But in 2004, things began to change
That was the year that Glad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Although all illnesses are bad, that’s a diagnosis that no one wants to get. It wasn’t long before her health started to deteriorate significantly.
It was a difficult time
This would be challenging for anybody. But since the couple loved being active and spending time outside, it was especially hard. They’d spent most of their relationship going on bike rides. And now with Glad having Alzheimer’s, they were worried that would stop.
Bill knew he needed to do something
He just couldn’t lose his biking buddy. So, he began to brainstorm about what he could do to get them back on the road again. Finally, he came up with an idea.
A bike with a special seat
Since Glad couldn’t ride her bike, Bill figured he’d just take her with him. He decided to build a bike chair. It looks very similar to a normal bike with the exception it has a chair for Glad to sit on up front.
Now, they go everywhere
Glad’s diagnosis isn’t going to slow her down. Since completing the bike, the couple have been going on rides all over the place. In particular, they love heading to the beach and the park.
Bill explained why this was so important to him
He wanted others to know why he decided to build the bike. He said, “I used to ride everywhere on my bike and Glad had her bike as well, and we’d put a bay chair on the front of her bike, so we carried our babies around on the bikes. Bikes have been part of our lives, and I guess that has something to do with this now.”
He loves her so much
Bill can’t help but show love to his wife. He stated, “I don’t count it a burden whatsoever, I count it a great privilege to care for this one I have loved all these years. She’s my princess and I’m her William and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The Bike Chair Team
The couple wants to make this bike available to more people. So, they created the Bike Chair Team. They hope to make this unique type of bike for other people experiencing mobility problems like Glad.
True love
This is such a sweet story. You can easily tell that Bill loves his wife more than anything. Hopefully, they’ll be biking together for a long time.
