Of all the diseases in the world, Alzheimer’s may be the most brutal. It isn’t the physical pain that makes it hard, it’s the way it affects the people around you. Slowly watching someone forget their loved ones is heart-wrenching and something no human should ever have to experience.
Our value lies in what we are and what we have been, not in our ability to recite the recent past.” – Homer
Despite the emotional toll it takes on a relationship, significant others do their best to make things work.

Lisa and Peter have one of those stories that you can’t help but think of for a movie plot. It’s emotional, stirring, and beautiful, all at once. Lisa and Peter have been married for 12 years and Lisa has been Peter’s caretaker since 2018.
Peter was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s when he was just 53-years-old.

“I didn’t know anything about Alzheimer’s,” Lisa told the outlet about Peter being diagnosed at just 53 years old. “It was something you get when you’re 80. I was ignorant about it. I didn’t know anything at all. I knew cognitively he was slipping quick, but I was in denial.” – People.com

Although Peter is slowly forgetting things, he is clearly in love with his wife. He often reminds her of this in the way that he waits for her to wake up or in the things that he says. Last year, he said something that sparked a chain of events that was as beautiful as it was emotional.
The couple was watching television when Peter pointed at the screen towards the marriage scene.
With a massive grin, Peter explained that he would like to get married to the beautiful woman he was sitting next to – his wife Lisa.
“He doesn’t know that I’m his wife. I’m just his favorite person.” – People.com
Instead of just moving along, however, Lisa decided to take him up on the offer. She was going to accept his “marriage” proposal! They decided they were going to renew their vows together.
Lisa’s daughter, Sarah, is a wedding planner and wanted to help.
Planning a beautiful ceremony, they all dressed to impress. Lisa got all dressed up in a beautiful white gown and Peter was in the suavest suit he had. They looked adorable together.
When Lisa walked down the aisle to meet Peter, he had a huge smile on his face.
They held each other and renewed their vows like they did so many years ago. It was an elegant and emotional affair – there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. With music and dinner, the couple had a moment of pure beauty as they danced and reminded each other of their love. It’s safe to say there is a HUGE crying warning on the video below.
