After the year we’ve had, you’d think we’d at least get some relief at Christmas.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still doing the rounds, and infection rates are ever-increasing.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, as vaccines are being approved and shipped out across the world as of this moment.
But until then, we all have to stay strong, support one another, and look out for those who may be in need.
A single mom from Houston was recently surprised by an act of kindness while battling the virus.
Lisette LeJeune has been in isolation with her two sons, aged 3 and 14, who have also contracted the virus.
She has been relying on her family members to deliver groceries and medical supplies to her door, but it hasn’t been easy.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Lisette, a makeup artist who hasn’t been able to work due to the pandemic, said:
“I was really sick the first week, so it was really hard trying to take care of both of them. It’s so hard being a single mom.”
Earlier this month, Lisette went outside to check the mail, and came across something she hadn’t ordered.
It was a snowman gift bag packed full of goodies, including cans of chicken soup, crackers, orange juice, and cookies.
Lisette wondered whether a family member had stopped by without letting her know, but this seemed a little unusual to her.
It was only when she opened the package that she discovered a note that explained everything.
Lisette didn’t know her mail carrier, Mary, very well. She had only ever had one conversation with Mary, and that was on the morning her positive COVID test results had come back.
But Mary had kept Lisette in her thoughts and surprised her with a heartwarming get-well gift.
Sharing the bag and the note to her personal Facebook page, Lisette wrote:
“The sweetest thing happened this morning that made my entire year. As you know I’ve been home in quarantine with Covid. I opened the door one day with my mask on and told my mail lady that we had covid and I would put a bucket in front of the house so she could just drop it in without touching our mail box, as I get the mail out.”
Lisette went onto explain that this morning, she had found a care package in the bucket, along with a sweet note from Mary, which read:
“Get-well wishes… I hope you all are feeling better!”
The act of kindness touched Lisette’s heart, and she couldn’t resist sharing her story with the world.
Speaking to GMA, she said:
“What made me emotional was just the thought of her getting the bag ready, in the morning before starting work or the night before, just her having us in mind with her daily routine.”
Mary herself made a statement to ABC News, simply calling the act “a small gesture of kindness.”
Lisette has thankfully made a full recovery from COVID, and has since received negative test results.
She left a thank-you message to Mary at her doorstep, and plans to thank her in person when it’s safe to do so.
