While many of us have a secret dream to set a world record, it’s harder for some people than it is for others.
Perhaps you don’t have a talent, a hobby or a quirk that is particularly record-worthy. It’s hard to set a record if, like most of us, you don’t have anything unique that sets you apart.
But some people, like seventeen-year-old Maci Currin, don’t have to try for a world record – they were just born that way.
Maci, or Austin, Texas stands at 6 feet, 10 inches tall, and her legs measure at just over 53 inches. Impressively, this means her legs make up over 60% of her entire height.
Speaking to Newsflare about her childhood, Maci recalled,
“I never really had, like, a single growth spurt where I grew a lot. I grew about 4 to 5 inches a year, so I was consistently getting taller.”
But being different in high school isn’t usually something that impresses your peers. Maci had always been tall for her age, and her height started to attract unwanted attention.
Because she looked different from everyone else, Maci became a target for school bullies.
But the brave teen decided to ignore the haters, and, by the time she reached her Sophomore year, she stopped caring what other people had to say.
Instead of feeling bad about her tallness, Maci – who comes from a tall family, but is the tallest of the lot – decided it was time to make herself known for the right reasons.
So, naturally, she decided to become a Guinness World Record holder – for the longest legs of any female in the world.
If that wasn’t enough, Maci is also a world record holder for the longest legs on a teenager.
Sensing value in her height, Maci is an aspiring model, and has built up quite a social media following. On her Instagram account, which she set up just over a year ago, she has more than 50,000 followers.
Of course, being taller than everyone else has its challenges.
Maci has to get her pants and leggings custom-made, and simple things like getting in and out of a car can pose a problem to her.
Certain cars are too small for Maci to even get into, and she has to “man-spread” – sit with her legs open – just to fit into others.
All of Maci’s t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies are oversized, so that the sleeves are long enough.
Mom Trish explained that buying clothes for special occasions for her daughter was difficult, and added, “Youβve got to really plan ahead.”
But Trish didn’t hesitate to say how proud she was of Maci for embracing her height, recalling that as a child, Maci had never been someone to “scrunch up” and make herself seem smaller than she was.
She added that she was happy that Maci would be recognized for “her height and her beauty”.
Reflecting back to the years she was bullied for her tallness, Maci said that she thinks her peers didn’t know how to process her size difference.
Maci has, for the most part, become used to the stares she attracts in day-to-day life. She’s completely happy with being tall nowadays, and reached out to teens like her, saying:
“I hope tall women can see height is a gift. You should really embrace it.”
