Being an actor means blending into your environment, fitting in a world made for the camera, kind of like a cinematic chameleon.
Depending on how dedicated actors are to their craft, they might dress differently, speak in a different accent, behave like their characters, or even grow out their hair.
65-year-old New York City actor Frankie Verroca has often been typecasted in many shows and movies thanks to his hairy, homeless appearance.
But don’t judge a book by its cover.
Despite the crazed, menacing appearance, Verroca is quite the gentleman, filled with smiles and joy and very passionate about his work.
Verroca has been acting since high school and because he hasn’t cut his hair since 2013. Many of the films and TV shows Verroca’s worked on often cast him as a creepy guy or a homeless person.
Perhaps you’ve seen him before.
Verroca’s made appearances in several notable works, such as network hit “Gotham,” Meryl Streep’s 2015 musical comedy-drama “Ricki and the Flash,” and even the 1977 disco classic “Saturday Night Fever.”
Verroca often had to brush his hair, and his beard would often get caught in jacket zippers.
“My hair is impossible, at this point, to style,” Verroca said in a segment of The Rachael Ray Show. “I don’t know what to do; there’s so much of it.”
Tired of brushing and maintaining his long hair and beard, the character actor decided to undergo a breathtaking transformation.
Verroca’s wardrobe mainly consists of flannel shirts and jeans that don’t fit him very well. Frankie’s 100-year-young aunt—who watches the Rachael Ray Show religiously—has also expressed her desire to see her nephew shaved and trimmed.
“It’s time to move on,” Verroca said, “new horizons, see what’s out there, and go for it!”
On the Rachel Ray Show, the new, stylish, and trimmed Frankie Verroca made his first appearance before a live audience.
It’s startling how different a person can look after a trim and change in fashion. Still, Frankie Verroca, with short hair, a clean-shaven face, and a well-fitting blue suit, makes him look unrecognizable and much more attractive.
Think of a cross between Bill Nye the Science Guy and actor Richard Gere. However, Verroca had yet to see how he looked.
When Verroca finally saw himself on the screen, his jaw dropped.
Blogger and guest on the show, Tommy DiDario, picked apart the style he and Verocca chose. The actor was sporting a blue sports jacket, dark trouser jeans, and shiny brown kicks.
Along with Verroca’s silvery haircut, the man looks as if leaped out of classic Hollywood with a touch of 21-century style. Hopefully, with his new look, Frankie Verroca can land some more roles outside his typecast.
You’re probably on the edge of your seat as to how he looks, so take a few minutes and check out the video below to see for yourself!
