Little Arzola “Zola” Tomic was born on May 29, 2015. Her mom, Brittani, shared that she’s had miscarriages before and that carrying Zola for 9 months made it a high risk pregnancy.

Ultrasounds revealed possible genetic effects but were eventually written off by doctors.

But at six months, Zola was still behaving like a newborn, meaning she wasn’t hitting her development milestones.

Even the family’s pediatrician, Dr. Sabrina Ben-Zion, knew something was wrong.

“When I was pregnant with Zola there were some concerns with my 20-week ultrasound,” Brittani said. “The baby had a cyst on her brain, a white mark on her heart, and other suspected chromosomal abnormalities. However, when she was born everything appeared normal and an MRI of her brain at 6 months old showed the cyst had disappeared.”

Zola was two when routine surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids were done.

But that caused more complications.

Six days later, she was playing in her room and after about a minute, Zola was unconscious laying in a pool of her own blood.

She was transferred to Akron Children’s where she was admitted for observation.

Three days later, Zola stumbled into her parents’ bedroom in the middle of the night covered in blood once again.

After an emergency surgery and many tests later, the problem was discovered.

Brittani was contacted by a friend who told her about a condition called Ehlers-Danlos.

She did some research and felt many of the symptoms matched up to Zola’s and mentioned the possibility to her daughter’s hematologist.

Ehlers-Danlos is generally characterized by joint hypermobility, joint instability and dislocations, scoliosis, and other joint deformities, skin hyperextensibility and abnormal scarring, and other structural weakness such as hernias.

When Zola was finally home, she began to tell her parents about her own experience.

Mom and daughter were getting ready when Zola asked her mom a question that would stun anybody.

“When can I see God again?”

Brittani asked her daughter when she saw God. Zola answered saying it was the night she passed.

Then Brittani asked what God said to her. Zola’s response is as stunning as it is beautiful. Apparently, God said,

“Thank you for being my friend.”

Zola says she gave Jesus a hug!

And like any good little girl, she still talks to God a lot.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s so amazing that you felt comfort, and you saw him,’” Brittani said. “And that’s when she said that it looked like a rainbow and Jesus thanked her for being his friend and for loving him. And I just can’t explain it. I’m just so grateful she’s still here.”

Even the bible shows that Jesus had a soft spot for children.

He even asks people to have childlike faith.

Brittani admits that as a family, they haven’t been as active in church, but after Zola’s amazing experience, they may be opening those church doors pretty soon.

After all, Zola has a very special friend.
