Four-year-old Milan never knew her father, Travis Larson. He was killed before she was born.
Tami Avolia, Milan’s grandmother and Travis’ mother, was devastated by her son’s unexpected and tragic death.
“He didn’t just take my son. He took my best friend. He took his daughter’s daddy away. She never got to meet him,” Tami Avolia said. “A week before, we were celebrating the gender reveal party. He was so excited he was having a little girl.”
But, even though he wasn’t there physically with them, Milan’s family made sure she knew her father. That’s why they celebrate his birthday every year.
This year, Milan wanted to do something special. She wanted to send him balloons in heaven.
And she added a special note as well.
“She wrote a note to him, and I translated it and it says, “Happy birthday, daddy. I love you. I miss you. And I never wanted you to go away. Happy Birthday. Baby girl,” Tami shared.
They let the balloon with the note go after Milan sang Happy Birthday to her daddy.
They had no idea where the balloon and note will go but they hoped the message would still reach Milan’s daddy.
A couple of days later, they got their answer.
When Tami opened their mailbox a few days later, she was surprised to see a box inside. And when she saw it was for “Baby girl” from “Daddy in heaven,” she started crying,
Someone saw Milan’s balloon and note for her daddy and made this little package for her.
When Milan and Tami opened the box, they found a short note and a special gift for daddy’s baby girl.
“I love your birthday present. Thank you so much. Daddy loves you and Mommy so much and you all. Here’s a present that I made just for you. Hope you like them,” they read on the note inside the package.
They found out, through the postal worker in Fayette County, that a woman in nearby Brier Hill found the note and balloon at her home. She was so touched by the sweet gesture that she decided to answer it “in behalf of Daddy in heaven.”
Not only did she answer Milan’s note, she added three special handmade Christmas ornaments inside the box.
“They are Christmas tree ornaments, and I am sending you a kiss from heaven. Snowflakes are kisses from heaven. I love you so much. Daddy,” the letter continued.
Milan absolutely loved the present and she held it up proudly to show to the camera.
What made it more lovely were the angels attached on each snowflake ornament.
What happened to her son made Tami lose faith in people. But this kind gesture that didn’t need to be done restored her faith in people again.
This beautiful gesture gives her hope that there is still a lot of kindness in the world.
