It can be traumatic for children when they’re faced with a situation they can barely understand.

As much as we want to teach our children about the real world, there will come a time that they will see it firsthand and leave them scarred or much more resilient.

Hopefully, when these things do happen, there will be enough support for them so they can better understand what’s happening around them.

One such situation is seeing your parent get handcuffed.

The Morrow Police Department shared a photo on the department’s social media account that showed the heartbreaking side of law enforcement.

The photo showed an officer hugging a little girl. The police officer was interim chief David Snively, and the little girl was a daughter of a person they had to arrest.

According to the post, the father had turned “hostile” during the encounter.

“You know it’s always sad to see the little ones in tears when one of their parents gets arrested.” The original post started. It then proceeded to explain that the little girl’s father “wanted to fight and argue” with the apprehending officers.

The police then “took him for a ride”. The post was then reposted by the police department and clarified what transpired in the photo.

They didn’t give details on what happened to the case.

They didn’t explain what the man did or what happened during his arrest. They shared, however, that someone took a photo of a candid moment between Chief Snively and the little girl.

The police department’s post said that the mother was talking to the other police officers when the chief saw another passenger. The little girl was crying.

One can only imagine the pain the child was going through especially when she saw her father being taken away.

The post said that Chief Snively did something compassionate.

The photo showed him embracing the child close as if consoling her. They also said that he was answering the child’s questions and explaining to her what just happened.

They also shared in the Facebook post that the entire thing was not staged and that Chief Snively didn’t know that someone took a photo of the heartbreaking moment.

The Morrow Police Department says that interactions like this are common.

They said that encounters such as this happen “every day” and at “every level” of their department.

People commended the force for doing something so compassionate. Later on, Chief Snively posted his own version of events on his LinkedIn profile.

“It ripped my heart out. I promised her that he was safe and that he would be home soon,” he said to WSB-TV of the encounter. “She nodded, then wrapped her little arms around me, laid her head on my shoulder, and sobbed.”

He also said that while there were things he can’t fully understand, he knew his purpose as a father and as a police officer.

“Today, God put me in a place to use it, and I am certain that sweet little girl did more for me than I could have done for her,” he said in his post.
