A little boy from Atlanta, Georgia, realized that since most of his family contracted COVID-19, and with him and his parents being unable to visit them at the hospital, what he can only do is pray for them. Especially his grandpa, who had been in the hospital for more than a month.

According to WTOL, five members of the Paulus family were tested positive for the novel coronavirus over the last month.

Owen’s aunt, uncle, cousin, grandma, and grandpa, all were infected and had symptoms of the disease, although it took them some time before they realized what it was.

“Every one of us, out of all four of us — our chief complaint was something different,” Bob Paulus, the uncle, told WTOL. “We were able to interconnect that I had something similar with my mom or my wife had something similar with my dad, but at the time, we weren’t able to connect all the dots.”

Out of all of them, the majority got sick with minor symptoms and recovered pretty quickly. Owen’s grandma and uncle have already tested negative for the active virus and positive for the antibodies, while both his uncle and aunt were allowed to return to work last week and take their son home with them.

However, things didn’t go so smoothly for Owen’s grandpa, Chuck.

The elderly man has already spent more than a month in the hospital, most of which in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit.

About two weeks ago, Owen’s mom, Brandee Hanes, found him in their backyard, toy trucks all piled up next to him on the glass table, while he was doing something that left her speechless. He was sitting there, head bent, hands crossed, praying for his Opa to recover from this virus. Hanes took a picture of him and posted it on Facebook, asking the community to pray for her dad and his grandkids.

“If I may ask, please say a little extra for the grandkids. All they know is Opa is very sick and they miss him dearly!!”

The reaction of the Facebook community has been overwhelming, with hundreds of people liking her post and dozens of them writing a few words of comfort for the virus-hit family.

Over the next weeks, Hanes kept updating her online friends about her dad’s condition, which, thankfully, seems to be getting better.

A few days ago, she posted an older photo of the family, accompanied by an update on Chuck’s health. According to Hanes, he was more alert and the hospital staff even tried to take him off the ventilator to see if he could breathe without any mechanical support. Unfortunately, it proved too early for that, but, as she explained, it was a good sign that they even tried.

Hanes also shared a funny incident from the hospital, in which her dad got ticklish when the nurses touched his feet.

“Something funny that happened today was the nurses asked if Dad had any kind of sensitivity to his feet because everytime they touch them Dad jumps and moves his legs. We laughed so hard. If you know Dad, he is EXTREMELY ticklish on his feet and HATES them being touched,” she wrote.

Until today, Chuck’s health has been improving- with ups and downs- and we wish for him to soon return to his family.
