Dogs are very empathetic animals, and they know just how to comfort us. Dogs seem to understand when someone needs a snuggle or a tail wag.
While dogs mostly focus on their owners, sometimes, they’ll extend their love to others in need. That’s just what happened with a dog and little boy.
We are all taught different rules growing up. Some of them, however, are pretty similar. We know that we need to look both ways when we cross the street. We also know that it is important to say please and thank you.
Two of the most significant rules that most of us were told include no petting a stranger’s dog without asking, and don’t go into people’s houses or cars you don’t know.
Josh broke two of those rules, all in pursuit of a friendly hug.
Video footage from a home security system caught quite a hilarious story a few years ago. Hollie Mallet was looking over her security footage one day when she realized that something strange was happening.
As she was scrubbing through the footage, something kept happening every day at the same time.
Looking through the footage, Hollie noticed an event taking place in her garage.
She keeps the garage doors open to allow her black lab, Duchess, to get some fresh air, and she uses a camera to keep track of the pup.
Each day that Duchess was hanging out, she got a visitor.
As Hollie’s dog was sitting in the garage, a kid on a bicycle would ride up to the house, hop off, and sprint into their open garage.
As the kid would enter, he would drop down, give the dog a big hug and a pat on the head, and then sprint off again, riding away on his bike.
The scene was baffling to Hollie, who had never seen anything like it!
While most people see an open garage as an opportunity to steal and cause harm, this young boy had seen a dog and just wanted to hug it! It is an example of pure innocence and love. Thankfully, Hollie wasn’t upset with the boy.
Hollie was a “normal” person and thought the scene was incredibly cute.
She decided that she wanted to find out who the boy was, so she released the footage to her neighborhood group and asked who it might be. Getting back a response, the boy’s mom was mortified.
Concerned that her son was willing to go into a stranger’s garage, and amused that the reason he went was to hug a dog, the boy’s mom didn’t know what to think.
The boy’s mom identified her son as Josh, and the mystery of the dog-hugging-biker was solved.

Hollie and her husband thought it was hilarious and offered a playdate for Josh and Duchess.
Hollie also learned that Josh’s beloved dog, Bella, had passed away the year before. This helped explain why Josh was so attached to Duchess — he just missed those doggy cuddles and kisses. Now, Josh and Duchess hang out more often, and they do it a bit more intentionally!
