Our veterans put so much on the line so we can comfortably sleep at night, so it’s always great to see anyone giving back to one of our servicemen.
In this case, it was “the gift of mobility” that this retired vet received, but just wait until you see whose car he got.
This brought tears to my eyes.
For David Miller, there was no question about what he would be doing to help his country.
He was born ready to serve.
So, just two weeks out of high school he joined the Navy and began serving.
He was a Navy aviation ordinance man who worked on some of the military’s best fighter jets.
“I just knew I wanted to serve in the Navy with all my heart,” David told the Today Show.
While serving in Japan on the USS George Washington, David met his wife, and soon they brought a daughter into the world.
That’s when the Millers’ lives were turned upside down, while David was serving on the USS Nimitz he had a life-changing medical emergency.
A tour different from the rest.
In the middle of his 7-month tour, David had a seizure and was diagnosed with cerebral atrophy and ataxia
Now with limited fine motor skills and problems with speech, David was discharged from the Navy and left questioning how he would support his family.
“I just thought, ‘man, how am I going to support my wife and child, now?’” said, David.
That’s when celebrities Jay Leno and Jenna Bush Hager enter the story with the Today Show.
Gifting David something extremely special.
After his interview with Today, David is shocked to see Jay Leno and Jenna Bush Hager pull up in a Dodge Caravan, but it’s not just any Dodge Caravan.
Unbeknownst to David at the time, it was the 41st President, George H.W. Bush’s service vehicle.
On top of that, Braun Ability completely tricked out the Dodge Caravan to be accessible for someone in David’s condition.
Jenna Bush Hager also had a heartfelt letter for the veteran from her father, the 43rd President, George W. Bush
In the letter, George W. Bush paid tribute to the wounded veteran and assured him that his father wouldn’t have wanted anyone but a veteran to take over his van.
“41’ would be proud to know that a fellow sailor will take his seat in the van and I know he would join me in thanking you for your contributions to our country,” read the letter.
George H.W. Bush was a staunch supporter of our military and would have loved that a veteran got his service van.
It’s well known that George H.W. Bush not only was an avid supporter of the military, but he also served as a Navy pilot in WWII.
So, who better to get his van than a fellow sailor?
When remembering her grandfather Jenna Bush Hager said:
“This was my grandpa’s car and I rode in it many times with him, I hope you and your family have as many happy memories I this van as my family did.”
