Our jobs can get pretty mundane, day in and day out following the same procedures.

Sure, each day has it’s own set of meetings or problems to solve, but typically one day turns into the next as we look forward to the weekend.

But then there are days that will stick in our memories forever.

And in the case of this Attorney in southwest Texas, his – what he thought was going to be a “normal” day – has turned him into an internet star!

With all the changes this last year has brought upon the entire world, one of them is doing things we would have normally done in person to be done over Zoom meetings.

It was just going to be regular civil case not different from many of the other cases these attorneys deal with every day.

When Judge Roy Ferguson opened up the virtual hearing of the 394th Judicial District Court in Texas, he got quite the surprise.

He saw his other two lawyers, but on one of the screens was a kitten!

Certainly it was a cute kitten with blue eyes and white fur, but it turned out to be a filter covering country attorney Rod Ponton.

“Mr. Ponton, I believe you have a filter turned on in the video settings,”

said the judge.

Ponton replied that his assistant was trying quickly to fix the settings.

He then hilariously assures everyone,

“I’m here live, I’m not a cat.”

The judge couldn’t help but answer,

“I can see that.”

The video unfolds itself in absolute hilarity and has naturally gone viral on social media.

Judge Ferguson wrote in a tweet about the video,

“IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If a child used your computer, before you join a virtual hearing, check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off. This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th.”

As Judge Ferguson is trying to help, the kitten face of Mr. Ponton looks forlornly at the screen.

The “kitten” is perfectly showing with his expressions just how frustrated Mr. Ponton is of the situation.

The other lawyer, H. Gibbs Bauer, puts on his glasses and leans forward to examine the screen. He gives his tie an adjustment and somehow manages to keep a straight face.

In the other box of the Zoom meeting, the other lawyer also managed to keep himself together.

We can only imagine they both couldn’t wait to share the hilarious mishap with their friends and family when they arrived home from work that night.

Mr. Ponton revealed that he was using his secretary’s computer and she was “mortified” by the mishap.

Finally they figure out how to get the filter turned off and though the episode was under a minute, it was enough to reach internet fame.

Business as usual was returned to the hearing as Mr. Ponton’s own face appears.

We can only wonder how long it took for them to get the episode out of their minds to proceed with their expertise in the case.

No doubt, it will stay in their memories for decades to come!

We have to say, everyone involved handled the case with dignity and grace, but thankfully they have decided to share with the rest of the world the funny moment.
