Being kind works both ways.

Unfortunately, because so many tenants leave places n a mess, few get their security deposits back. Not only that, but a lot of landlords now require a much higher deposit than previously charged. This is especially true when renting a place to young people, including students.

Up in the air

According to a recent report, only one of every four renters has their deposit returned. Usually, it’s because the amount of damage exceeds what renters would’ve been entitled to get back. There’s one simple solution — tenants need to take care of their landlord’s property and leave it in good condition after moving out.

Student renters

For seven students in Leeds, England, they got the shock of a lifetime after moving out of their apartment. They’d been tenants for three years. But after completing school, it was time for each of them to go their separate ways.

Expecting a battle

Although these renters took good care of their landlord’s home, and they paid their rent on time, they knew from other people that they’d likely have to fight to get any of their money back. So, what happened came as a total shock.

Refunding every dime

At best, most renters hope that get some of their security deposit. But for these tenants, they’d be getting all of it. As you can imagine, that came as a huge relief. After all, that money would come in handy as they prepared to enter the workforce.

Sharing the news

One renter by the name of Maisie, a 22-year-old psychology student at the university, couldn’t wait to tell others about the landlord’s kindness. So, she posted a screenshot of his message on her Twitter page along with a caption that read, “A nice student landlord!!!. Love you,, John.”

Why did he do it?

The last line of John’s text revealed the reason for his generosity. He stated that all seven of these students had been excellent tenants. For landlords, finding someone responsible to rent to is often difficult. He appreciated them doing the right things while living in his rental property.

Word spread quickly

After posting the story, it didn’t take long to spread throughout social media and the community. That’s when John was approached by a reporter with a local news station. During the interview, he commented, “I with them well in the future. If they carry on how they did in my house they will be fine people.”

Starting life

Now that all seven tenants have graduated from college, they’re excited about what the future holds. And one kind gesture from their landlord gave them an extra boost of confidence. But just as John praised his tenants, they praised him, too. All of them agreed he was an amazing landlord.
