There’s no question that the world is fascinated by Hollywood couples.
A pair of lovebirds who continue to capture hearts is actress Goldie Hawn and actor Kurt Russell. Despite not ever tying the knot – they’ve been partners in life for more than three decades.
Just recently, CBS News correspondent, Tracy Smith, sat down with Hawn and Russell at their Los Angeles home for an interview. As to be expected, there was never a dull moment!
In the video, the duo discusses their exciting new holiday movie, details about how they met, their careers, their relationship, and if there’s a secret to it…
Hawn and Russell are giving us fans a gift we’ve been waiting for.
Very soon, people will get to see Hawn and Russell on screen together again in their upcoming Netflix film, The Christmas Chronicles 2. The movie is just in time for the holiday season, as it’s being released on November 25th!
In Christmas Chronicles 2, the pair, once again, take on the roles of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. What’ll be different though – is that Hawn only had a cameo in the original hit film. This time, she co-stars in it with Russell!
The Hollywood couple’s first meeting took place many, many years ago.
Hawn and Russell originally met on the film set of Disney’s 1968 musical, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.
So, was it love at first sight? Not so much. Hawn told CBS News’ Tracy Smith:
“I think for me, I mean, he was way too young for me. I mean, I was like dating older guys, right? I was what, 20?”
Russell explained:
“I was only 15-years-old. I didn’t even have a car. I didn’t have a license.”
Russell crossed paths again with Hawn while auditioning for the film, Swing Shift.
It was 1983, and at that point, they were both divorced and not seeking relationships. They did, however, end up going out on a date. Russell admits he didn’t put his “best foot forward” though.
He shared:
“I was at a time in my life and a period of my life where I was very definitely gonna put my worst foot forward when it came to any kind of a relationship, with the possibility of a relationship. I put my worst foot forward. If you can handle that, then maybe there’s a chance of some reality there of being together.”
But Hawn didn’t remember it that way. She responded:
“You put your worst foot forward? I could hardly say that. I would say if you’d done that with me I wouldn’t be with you today.”
They’ve now been together for decades. But when it comes to their careers – Hawn and Russell make their own decisions.
In the video, Smith asks:
“Do you guide each other as far as the roles that you’ve chosen? Do you talk about it before you say yes or no?”
Hawn answers:
“Very rarely. He’s never made a mistake in terms of what he’s decided to do, ever. But he’s never been bad. Ever. And so even movies that I didn’t like…”
That comment has Russell responding, “You’re gonna get a lot of pushback on that,” accompanied by some laughter. While the pair continue to talk, it’s easy to see that they keep one light-hearted, happy household.
Hawn and Russell have had successful film careers in Hollywood. Yet, it’s their beautiful, blended family that they’re most proud of – which includes four kids and six grandchildren.
Smith decided to ask the couple a question that many are curious about.
“So I’m sure you guys get asked this. What is the secret, if you could boil it down?”
Hawn responded first, saying:
“There’s no secret. And I love you for asking that question, because it’s a normal question. But there’s two things, for me, anyway. And it’s that you both wanna be together. I mean, you’ve gotta want to be together.”

Russell shared his thoughts too.
“…you’re right. It’s up and down, it’s sideways, it’s whatever. At the end of the day, how do you explain it? I don’t know! I guess it’s as simple as saying, for me it’s the same thing as what you’re saying. I call that love.”
