The world’s favorite beverage has a new reason to be loved.
One of the worst fears a parent can have is their children getting abducted. While child abductions are a bit rare, one can only imagine the pain of knowing your child is alive, and yet, you can never be with them.
This nightmare would’ve turned into a reality if not for quick thinking and a breakfast favorite.
In Michigan, four girls kept a kidnapper at bay when they threw coffee at him. The girls were leaving a gas station convenience store in Flint when a man grabbed one of the girls by the hair. He pulled her close and attempted to kidnap her.
“He looked really weird,” Allison Eickhoff told Inside Edition. “He grabbed me and he, like, covered my mouth and he grabbed my head. He said, ‘You’re coming with me,’ and I was, like, in shock.”
Lauren, her sister screamed and immediately jumped into action.
But with the suspect’s size, any effort from these little kids might not do much. Good thing, one of them had the good idea of using something else to fight off the abductor.
“I grabbed my drink and chucked it at his head. I tried, I punched him in the head,” Lauren said to ABC News. “Seeing that your little sister was going to get taken is very scary.”
The girls threw their iced coffee at the predator.
The police arrested 22-year-old Bruce Hipkins. He was charged with a multitude of cases including unlawful imprisonment, assault and battery, and two counts of criminal sexual conduct. And for the price of four servings of coffee, Hipkins’s bail is set at $250,000.
The girls’ bravery was smeared over the perpetrator’s shirt. His mugshot revealed stains of coffee and Slurpee.
The girls escaped to a nearby hotel and called for help. Fortunately, none of them were injured despite the shocking encounter.
Their dad, Aaron Eickhoff, was extremely proud of all of the girls.
If not for their bravery and quick thinking, the situation would’ve been a nightmare. The Eickhoffs credited their father for teaching them self-defense tricks.
“Punch ’em, kick ’em, anything to get away and always punch in the throat … they go and stop breathing,” Allison recalled of his lessons to Inside Edition.
It was not only their dad who’s impressed but also Millington Police Chief Jason Oliver. He said to Inside Edition that “the girls thought fast and did the right thing by fighting back”.
For others who find themselves in a similar situation, the girls have a piece of advice.
They urged others to “always fight back because you always have a chance.” And always remember that anything you have on you can be used as a weapon – a set of keys, your cardigan, or in this case, the very beverage on your hand.
As for this assaulter, let’s just say he’s going to hate the scent of coffee for the rest of his life.
