If you were to talk to most people – they could probably list different kinds of birthday parties they’ve had over the years. After all, it’s common in our society to celebrate individuals on their special day, whether they’re a child or an adult. And what better way to do it than with a big old birthday bash?

But while it seems like everyone’s had at least a few parties, that’s just not true. The woman in the story below actually went decades without ever having a single one.

Ms. Frances Buzzard was 76 years old, and she had never had a birthday party before.

She was working as a custodian at Belle, a school with a truly caring faculty. The staff was shocked when they found out – this case couldn’t be rarer. They knew they had to do something, so they took advantage of her upcoming 77th birthday.

It was finally time for her to become the birthday girl.

The principal of Belle, Amanda Mays, explained:

“We found out from the head cook, who is friends with Ms. Frances, that she has never had a birthday party. So she turns 77 on January 30th, and we thought that opportunity couldn’t pass us by.”

She and the other staff planned one of the biggest birthday parties ever. They scheduled the whole school for an assembly, so every student could be there to celebrate her happy day.

Since Ms. Frances wouldn’t be working on the actual date, they planned for the party to take place ahead of time. On the official schedule, they simply wrote “assembly” so that she would have no idea. Next, it was time for the fun part.

What’s a party without decorations and goodies?

The school decorated the entire assembly room. A huge banner covered the base of the stage. On it were the words “Happy Birthday Ms. Frances” in huge letters, with hundreds of students’ signatures in smaller writing. Three candles took their place in a cart of cupcakes. The last thing they needed was the birthday girl herself.

Surprise!

Another staff member led Ms. Frances into the assembly room, where she got the surprise of her life. Hundreds of children sang her “Happy Birthday”, and she even had her own seat right at the center of the room.

The custodian was absolutely thrilled. Her huge smile showed just how grateful she was.

“I’ve never had nothin’ like this!” she exclaimed. “Oh, it’s a great big party; I appreciate it.”

Best party ever.

Ms. Frances enjoyed her cupcakes as well as a slideshow that the school had made. In an adorable display of creativity, they photoshopped her into all kinds of exciting scenes. This was one day she’d never forget.

Even though Ms. Frances went more than seven decades without a birthday party – the students and staff helped make up for it. Hopefully, it’s just the beginning of a new tradition, and that she’ll have many more to come.
