Known as the “Scream Queen”, Jamie Lee Curtis was born into an established Hollywood family. Fans of the “Halloween” actress will know her work but younger generations may only remember Curtis for her roles in comedies. 1. Jamie is Jake Gyllenhaal’s Godmother
Jake Gyllenhaal is blessed with a handsome face and an impressively difficult-to-spell name. Jamie Lee Curtis, who remains close friends with Gyllenhaal’s parents, Stephen and Naomi, is Gyllenhaal’s very cool godmother.
2. Her best friend is Sigourney Weaver
Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver are both tall, brunette, and beautiful. Others may think these two are rivals but Weaver and Curtis share a great friendship. They starred in a film together in 2010 called You Again, where they played rivals, but off screen, these two are practically sisters.
3. Curtis loves ‘World Of Warcraft’
Curtis is a big fan of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft. People assume that Hollywood royalty is all glitz and glamour, but Curtis makes leisure time for video games. Jamie and her son, Thomas Guest, even dressed up as an orc duo for the premiere of the Warcraft film.
4. She’s married to Christopher Guest
Jamie Lee Curtis married Christopher Guest in 1984, the same year he starred in the hit mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. Guest became the 5th Baron Haden-Guest, of Great Saling, in the County of Essex, when his father died in 1996. They have two adopted daughters: Annie (born 1986) and Ruby (born 1996).
5. She also has a title
Jamie Lee Curtis is technically royalty. When Guest’s father died, the couple inherited the titles. Formally, she is known as Baroness Haden-Guest. But the couple don’t let it go to their heads. They’re pretty chill about it.
6. Curtis holds two diaper patents
Curtis holds a patent on a special kind of diaper she invented. The diaper has a moisture-proof pouch that holds wipes for on-the-go diaper changes. The other patent relates to disposable diapers that contain a plastic bag and can be wrapped up easily.
7. Jamie’s legs are insured
Pantyhose company L’eggs made Curtis the star of their ad campaign. Her legs became a precious commodity. Jamie’s tall, athletic physique paid off well beyond the silver screen. Her legs were insured for $1 million at the time.
8. Curtis is a blogger for The Huffington Post
Jamie Lee Curtis is also a widely read writer. She blogs for the Huffington Post where she shares everything, even her personal struggles. Jamie uses the platform to open up about her life and give commentary on current events.
9. She’s an expert organizer
Curtis is something of an expert when it comes to organization, and she even prides herself on her skills. Jamie even has what she describes as a “soup freezer file”. It’s where she stores flat, frozen plastic bags of soup, arranged vertically.
10. Sober since 1999
Curtis battled addiction to opioids for years. She wrote about it for the Huffington Post after the death of Prince. She’s overcome her addiction and been sober for almost two decades, an accomplishment she’s rightfully proud of.
11. She adopted her last name
Jamie is the daughter of legendary Hollywood actor Tony Curtis. Her father was born Bernard Schwartz, but studio executives changed his screen name to Tony Curtis. Jamie Lee adopted Tony’s stage name as her own.
12. Curtis started her own production company
Curtis struggled to find work after her success in 1978’s Halloween. In 1981, Curtis, her sister Kelly, and her mother Janet Leigh, started their own production company called Generation Productions. They aimed to write scripts that Curtis and her mother could star in together. No such project came to fruition.
13. Curtis has published children’s books
Curtis is an accomplished writer. It was watching her daughter grow that inspired Curtis to begin writing. Curtis has written nearly a dozen children’s books on everything from moods to moms in 15 years.
14. John Landis convinced Paramount to cast Curtis in a comedy
Landis and Curtis met when she narrated his documentary short on ’50s horror movie trailers titled Coming Soon. Landis thought Curtis would be perfect for an upcoming feature he was directing. But studio execs didn’t believe Curtis could do comedy. Landis stood his ground though and that’s how Curtis transitioned from horror to comedy.

15. Curtis wrote a 20-Page treatment called ‘The Myth’
In 1981, Curtis wrote a story called The Myth. It was to be her directorial debut via her personal distribution company, Generation Productions. She even took a cinematography class at UCLA. The script never made it past the treatment stage though.
16. Jamie and her mother had guest spots on ‘Columbo’
Curtis played a surly waitress in an episode of Columbo titled “The Bye-Bye Sky High IQ Murder Case.” This was before being chased by a knife-wielding maniac. Getting a role on the small screen mystery series was a family tradition. Her mother Janet Leigh played a killer on the show two years prior.
17. Her sister played Muffy in ‘Trading Places’
Older sis Kelly Curtis is an actress and a director. When Jamie starred in Trading Places, Kelly got a cameo as country club snob and headband aficionado Muffy. She’s the one who mocked Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd) when he was down on his luck.
18. Jamie won’t see horror movies
She may be known for them but Jamie Lee Curtis scares easily and won’t really watch horror movies. She says, “I scare easily—I have since I was a child. Loud noises scare me, suspense music scares me. There’s not a movie that my friends haven’t all said, ‘Oh, I’m going to go see this movie,’ and then they look at me and they say, ‘But you can’t go.”
19. She uses her kids to cancel plans
Living the life of a celebrity can be exhausting. All the parties, galas, and formal events can all get a bit much when all you want to do is Netflix & Chill. Like everyone else, Jamie will use her kids as an excuse to back out of plans.
20. She carried on her mom’s legacy
Her mother, Janet Leigh, played one of cinema’s most iconic film characters: Marion Crane in Psycho. Curtis inherited her mother’s talent for terror, establishing her name as the star of the Halloween franchise.
