Instacart has been popular since the 2010s, but over the last couple of years, Instacart shoppers have been extra busy given that many people avoided going to the supermarket due to the pandemic, and opted for having their groceries delivered to their houses.

But the service is not only popular among those who want to refrain from going outside; it is extremely useful for those elderly or sick citizens who just cannot leave their homes to go shopping.

Instacart personal shoppers do their best to pick the best products for their customers and deliver them on time, but sometimes they do much more than that, which is exactly what a Georgia mom did a couple of weeks ago.

Jessica Higgs, a personal Instacart shopper from Georgia, was just waiting for a new batch to pick up and deliver for a customer.

It happened to be a woman who was placing an order for her elderly father. This was obviously not the first time Higgs had delivered a similar order, and she knew exactly what she was supposed to do.

So, she picked up the groceries, and drove to the man’s home. Normally, she would have left the order at his front porch, as instructed by his daughter, but Higgs had a gut feeling that something was not right.

So, she didn’t follow the protocol and took the man’s order inside.

“I get there and something was telling me ‘No, you got to help this man out’,” she recounted in a TikTok video. “You’re not supposed to go into someone’s house, but I used my judgement and took the groceries inside,” she added.

The woman went on to say that she observed that there was a propane gas tank inside the man’s house, which instantly was a red flag for her. Somehow, she knew something was wrong with that.

As she explained, the man wasn’t looking good. He was definitely sick, and she was starting to get dizzy the longer she stayed inside the man’s house.

That’s when it hit her. There was probably a gas leak, and if that was indeed the case, both the man and herself were in danger.

So, she decided to call the man’s daughter, who had placed the order.

“So, I messaged [his daughter] and I said […] ‘It’s very unprofessional of me to say something […] but he’s not doing good- he’s sick.'”

She went on to explain that she believed there was a gas leak, and the woman immediately sent her son to check on the propane tank.

Indeed, there was a leak, and the man’s daughter didn’t know how to thank the stranger who saved her dad’s life. The only thing she could do was leave a $100 tip for her- instead of the initial $14- and write a moving comment in the app.

“You definitely saved my dad and my younger son’s life,” part of her comment read.

Higgs posted the story on social media to send the message that if you see something, you’d better say something; you may save lives.

Throughout her narration, Higgs couldn’t hold back her tears. She was so happy to save a man’s life by trusting her intuition.
