The internet can be a pretty funny place sometimes, and it occurs pretty often that footage goes viral from one day to the next. However, older footage that was taken long before the world wide web ever was a thing definitely can win over the heart of the internet – just take a look at this impressive swing dance performance that dates all the way back from the 1950s.
With names such as Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley, and Fats Domino, the 50s were an incredible musical era and the start of the rock and roll period.
The big boom electric guitar was known around the world and this style has definitely changed the music industry forever. Even though this era is most commonly known as the rock and roll period, there were a bunch of other genres and styles that defined this decade.
Jazz, doo-wop, pop, country music, blues – and of course, swing.
A video has recently surfaced on YouTube of a swing performance in the 50s, and people absolutely loved it!
Just look at how much fun all these folks are having! It’s all in black and white, of course, but it really adds to the aesthetic and makes you wanna go back to this decade of dance and music. The video shows a bunch of teenagers who definitely know what to do on a wild Saturday night.
Around the 1950s, dance really starting taking off as well. In this particular video, you can see that there is a preference for lindy hop moves, and they’re definitely pretty cool and impressive. Lindy hop – sometimes also referred to as jazz dance – can be regarded as a descendant of swing dance and has actually been around for quite some time, reaching its peak in the late 1930s.
It is often said that both the dancers and the viewers of jazz dance get excited, simply because the energy is too infectious!
The short two-minute-long video definitely has some pretty amazing highlights, and it’s definitely some amazing footage to remember the golden era of dance and swing. Of course, all of these teens are also perfectly dressed for the occasion! We often see dancing scenes like this in movies, but this is the legitimate thing and it’s just as good.
Times have definitely changed, and it’s pretty crazy to think that a lot of the young people who were swinging in this video are now grandparents or even great-grandparents.
However, we’re pretty sure that they are still very young at heart and never lost their love for swing dance. The rock and roll culture is one you simply do not forget!
It turns out that a lot of people are pretty nostalgic about swing dance, or perhaps there are a lot of young viewers who want to check out what dancing in older times was all about.
With over 12,5 million views on YouTube, this 1950s dance performance has gone massively viral.
“If this is what it was like to go out these days, I’d never be home,” one commenter said.
“My dad is 83 and can still dance like this, minus the jumping lol. Use to love watching mom and dad dance,” another commented.
Be sure to check out the performance in the video below, it’ll probably be the most energetic two minutes you’ll see on the internet today.
