Being a nurse is both rewarding and challenging. The job comes with long hours, hard work, and stressful situations.
Even before the pandemic hit there was a nursing shortage in the US.
And for one lucky nurse, in particular, she has a husband that recognizes just how challenging her career can be at times.
Phillip Urtz, who lives with his wife Jessica in Rome, New York, is all too familiar with his wife’s exhausting schedule.
He said of his hard-working wife:
“She works through lunch and rarely has time to sit. She comes home after 14 hours, takes off her shoes that have walked through blood and tears, and just wants to sit down. I don’t ask her about her day because She doesn’t like to talk about work when she is home and that’s fine.”
One day, Phillip decided that he wanted Jessica – and anyone else reading – to know just how much he appreciated her.
So he decided to write about it in a touching post on Facebook.
He got the idea after seeing her come home exhausted. After completing another one of her 14-hour shifts, Jessica came home, made a quick dinner, and was off to bed in order to get up and go back to work again the next day.
But before she went to sleep, Phillip surprised her with his post.
“This is my wife Jessica having dinner after a 14 hour day. She comes home from work, has enough time to eat and get ready for bed and it’s back to work the next day for another shift.”
“She is up early to get ready for her day. She doesn’t like to be bothered in the morning and I respect that. She showers, throws her hair up, grabs her lunch gives the dog and me a kiss and heads out the door.”
“At work she takes care of people who are having the worst days of their lives. Strokes, Car accidents, motorcycle accidents, falls, breaks, brain damage and more. She takes care of mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends and families. It doesn’t matter who you are or what happened. She will take care of you.”
“If she does want to talk, I will listen. Sometimes she comes home happy and sometime she comes home sad. But no matter how she feels, she is always on time for her next shift.”
“I love her with all my heart. My wife is my hero. My wife is a Stroke Nurse.”
It’s awesome to see someone show this type of appreciation to their wife.
Hard work can wear you down and sometimes it can feel almost impossible to continue on when you are exhausted.
But when you receive a little bit of appreciation for what you do, especially from someone that you love, it gives you the motivation to keep going.
If you have a loved one in your life that works hard, make sure that you let them know just how proud you are of them.
Give them that motivation to keep going and support them when they need it.
After all, you may find yourself in a situation where you need some support to continue on. And that person will be there for you as well.
