Over the past year, essential workers like doctors and nurses have gone above and beyond to help fellow humans in the time they needed them the most.
The COVID pandemic has completely changed our lives- for the worst in the most part- and it has made us realize how much we owe to the medical community, who takes care of us, and to scientists who are trying to develop the most efficient vaccines and medicines to fight the virus.
Last year, in Italy, people came up with a wonderful idea: they went out to the balconies and started applauding the medical staff of their country in order to show their appreciation and respect. More countries followed and it became a major trend back in 2020.
This year, a young boy from Rhode Island, Christian, found another way to thank doctors and nurses for all that they do. In this endeavor, he asked his older friend, Abbey, to help him.

Earlier this year, during a snowstorm, Christian Stone came up with an idea: when the next storm hit his town, he’d go to the nearest hospital and clear off the snow from the staff’s cars, so that they could go home without having to shovel.
And, indeed, he had the chance to put his plan into action in February. But, he couldn’t do it all alone, so he asked a family friend, Abbey Meeker, for help.
Abbey, 29, has known Christian’s mom since grade school, and she has been close to the family since.
“Christian is wise beyond his years,” she said. “He’s my little partner in crime.”
So, on a cold February evening, the duo headed to Westerly Hospital and, without wasting time, they started shoveling snow off of the workers’ cars.
“We kind of made it a game,” Meeker told CNN.
Whenever a staff member got out of the hospital and used their remote to unlock or start their car, the two friends would rush to the car and clear it off.
Imagine how grateful the workers must have been!
“I was thinking they’ve been helping us a lot through this whole pandemic, and I figured why don’t we help them, you know?” Christian said.
As he explained, he and his friend wanted to “make it a tiny bit easier for them by cleaning off their cars for them.” After all, they have been working so hard for all of us, why not show them some appreciation this way?
Christian and Abbey’s task was not an easy one. They even had to change clothes twice because they had been getting soaking wet in the freezing cold.
Abbey even admitted she wouldn’t have made it without her little friend.
“If I had to do it by myself, I definitely would not have done it,” she said. “But I knew how much it meant to Christian, so I sucked it up.”
Of course, the duo didn’t accept any money for their services, except for $20 that two nurses insisted on giving them.
These young people’s good deed has gone viral since it was made public, and people have been writing words of praise for them. A nurse of Westerly Hospital even commented on Facebook about finding her car unusually clean after her shift.
