With everything going on in the world, we can all agree…these are trying times for everyone. But for some individuals, things are even tougher. That includes those who’ve fallen ill or have family members facing tough decisions that lead to heartbreaking losses. In spite of that, there’s some good news coming out of hospitals and medical centers.

Nurses and doctors continually put their health at risk for the sake of others. Thanks to their selfless efforts, we’ve all heard stories of remarkable events. These men and women are going above the call of duty to help save lives. And that’s what they did for one man whose story has been heard around the world.

They saved his wife’s life

Even though a woman from New Jersey was going through a medical crisis, her husband couldn’t go inside the hospital to be by her side. That would’ve put his health at risk. Finally, he received some news. He learned the hospital staff had saved her life. So, he wanted to find a way to thank them.

He stood outside holding a sign

He wanted the doctors and nurses to know how much they were appreciated. Since he couldn’t go into the emergency room, he felt holding up a sign was the best way to get his message across. It was a large sign with the words “Thank you all in emergency for saving my wife’s life. I love you all” in bold print. Everyone inside could see it.

He became emotional

As you look at the photos, you can tell how grateful he was for everything the hospital staff did. While holding his hand over his heart, the man’s eyes filled with tears. Just knowing she’d be okay made him incredibly happy.

His display of gratitude encouraged the staff members

The people working at the hospital were also happy — they’d been able to save the man’s wife. So, they were touched by the scene. Allison Swendsen, one of the nurses at the medical center, posted a picture of the sign on her Facebook page. She said, “In triage the other day, I heard a knock on the window. This was what I saw — this man knew he couldn’t come in but wanted to show some gratitude.”

She wanted to remember the extraordinary moment

“I asked through the window if I could snap a picture and he nodded, he had tears pouring down his face. I peeked out the door and asked him how his wife was. He said ‘great, she is going home today, you are all amazing.’ I dont know him, I dont know his wife, but through out the last 13 years as a nurse, I realized, this is why we do it — times are tough but we make a difference. I love my team.” [sic]

The entire team of nurses were touched

Another nurse working at the medical center named Paige Van Der Vliet told the Daily Record “It’s amazing to see not only the ER staff but all the floors coming together during this challenging time. We couldn’t do this without nurses, techs, residents, doctors, secretaries, registrars, housekeeping. They are all working so hard, so it makes a big difference being appreciated.”

Nobody knows this man’s identity

Not one single person working at the hospital knows who this man is or for that matter, the identity of his wife.

The one thing they do know is his gratitude made all the difference in their day. Hopefully, he and his wife continue to rest and recover.
