Did you know that horses can communicate with humans? Isn’t this really incredible? Considering especially that we view horses as the rest of the domesticated animals. Someone would argue that cats and dogs can also communicate with their “family” members.
Well, that might be true but apparently, horses can form much deeper relationships with people and particularly their handlers. According to Rachele Malavasi, Ph.D., of the School of Ethical Equitation, in Moncigoli Di Fivizzano, Italy, ” Horses are social animals which have evolved skills to maintain their social unity: affiliative relationships, protection from outsiders, social facilitation, and even social learning”.
She also proceeds by explaining that after studies were conducted, “We know now that their skill set also includes the ability to communicate intentionally with humans”. People who were fortunate to have their own horses can probably tell us about the strong bond that can be forged between a horse and a human.
If we consider then that horses have that amazing social skills, what you will read next will hardly surprise you! Our story took place back in 2013 and its main protagonist is none other but a very unique and talented police horse.
Anyone that has visited New Orleans, Louisiana can attest that it’s a “magical” place full of music, fragrances, and colors. Solange Knowles told Vogue in 2016, “It is one of those things you can’t put into words, you can’t put your finger on what is so magical about it.”
So, even a night police patrol can turn into an amazing spectacle in this magical city, with music and dance, especially when the police horse has better dancing skills than the rest of us!
The video starts and we find ourselves in a crowded New Orleans street, it’s nighttime and the street is illuminated by the stores’ lights. We can hear Jazz music playing and our police officers make their entrance, following the beautiful tunes.
From the beginning, we can see the police horse starting to sway to the beat and walking closer to where the street band is. The dancing crowd surrounding the band welcomes the police officer and the horse with smiles on their faces.
We can see the police horse starting to dance, taking steps back and forth and left that reminds the dance of Salsa. Could that be that this horse is dancing Salsa?
We can see both the police officer and the horse now fully immersed in the music, dancing along with the rest of the dancers, drawing cheers and laughs from the surrounding audience.
Horse and street dancers actually engage in an incredible dance-off! It is really so incredible to see a horse dancing and following the music like a natural!
After a while, the police officer and the horse dance their way out of the musical scene, by retreating in reverse into the darker side of the street, bidding goodnight in this way to the crowd and continuing their patrol.
The performance is over and the police officer and his horse are long gone, yet the video is still here with us as someone thought that the scene was too amazing to be forgotten and it was posted on YouTube, accumulating more than 3K views.
Many people rushed to comment on the video, praising the horse for its dancing skills, one man wrote “I can see now why people from Louisiana love their state so much. What a fantastic scene! The music, the dancing…I love the way the officer never loses composure during the whole thing, he really just lets his horse be the real performer.”
Truly an amazing scene to witness, the crowd present undoubtedly will remember that night for the rest of their lives. Well done, officer-horse!
