Melody Luttenegger just moved into Stewart Avenue in Grand Chute.
It was a quiet and beautiful Fox Valley neighborhood. They were settling quite well, but one day, Melody noticed something,
On garbage days, their trash bins appear back in their proper location at their garage.

“We had just moved here in November. The place had been vacant for three years,” Melody said to WFRV.
Of course, they were shocked, but they thought it might have been a fluke, so they didn’t pay much attention to it.
But then, it happened again.
“It was so strange because all of a sudden our garbage cans were just showing up.”
She started thinking about who was responsible for this action or what was happening.
“We have such a long driveway and I thought maybe the garbage company is bringing our garbage,” she recalled in her interview.
Then, it happened again.
“I asked my husband, and he’s like, ‘no, I’m not bringing the garbage cans up,’ ” she continued.
This isn’t a one-time thing. That’s the time when Melody decided that with the help of Mason, they would figure out what was happening.
“Mason, we’re gonna figure out who this is.” Mason is her adorable son who is 9 months old.
They started looking and observing, until one day, they found out who the mystery garbage man was, and the time couldn’t be more perfect.
It was the day before Christmas eve when Melody and Mason stood outside to wait for the kind person who was returning their bins. They even prepared a small token of appreciation for the people involved.
Then, like before, the man came up and they finally saw him.
“So this old guy comes up with our garbage cans.”
The kind man was none other than Dick Pontzloff.
Dic was already 75-year-old, and he lives a few streets over Melody’s home. According to Dick, he got bored after retiring, and he saw one trash bin and delivered it back to the owner.
Now, it has become his hobby to do it for everyone.
“When I retired, I got sick of doing nothing, so I started going around and picking up garbage cans. Not just certain ones, everyone’s,” he said to WFRV.
He prefers to be called ‘Dick’ and for him, winter is the best season!
“I’ve been from Wisconsin most of my life. I’ve always loved winter,” he said in his interview. Even at -2 degrees on a Thursday morning in January. “It’s not that bad,” he said while laughing.
Dick would ride his bike and take the trash in for each of his neighbors.
Melody got worried and even asked Dick if he was feeling cold. She asked him because his brows had formed icicles.
Dick explained that normally, he wouldn’t even wear a mask. It’s just that the mask he is using now keeps his face nice and warm.
He’s a calm and quiet guy, but Dick wanted to impart a very important message to all of us.
“Just be nice to all people,” Dick said. “It’s just what you gotta do. Just think if you were at home and you needed someone for help.”
He’s such a sweetheart! Watch the full news interview below, and don’t forget to share this with your loved ones.
