David Cesarez, from Laredo, Texas, has been struggling to accomplish his dreams.
After getting a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Texas A&M University, the 26-year-old worked as a software developer for General Motors for a couple of years— but his real dream was to create his own tech start-up company.
Taking a leap of fate, David cashed out his 401K and headed to Silicone Valley to try and make his dreams come true.
“If you want to come out here and play with the big dogs, this is where you have to be,” he told NBC Bay Area.
Unfortunately, David quickly realized he had underestimated the cost of the living in the Bay Area and how easy it would be to get a job. The 26-year-old was living in his van but was still intent on accomplishing his dreams. The young man worked freelance gigs designing logos and even got an interview with Apple— but sadly, none of these things worked out.
By June, he had completely run out of money and his van was repossessed. Since then, he’s had no other option but to sleep on a bench in Rengstorff Park.
David continued looking for jobs but was starting to lose hope. In a last-ditch effort before returning to Texas, he came up with a brilliant plan. “This is my make it or break it moment,” he said. “I have to do something crazy.”
“I was thinking this was like my last stop. If this didn’t work, I’d go back home and give up on my dream.”
David got dressed in a nice suit and stood on a corner with a placard that said: “Homeless, Hungry 4 Success. Take A Resume.”
“I knew it would be posted on social media, I didn’t know it would blow up like this,” he said.
“I’m trying not to take any money; I really do just want a job opportunity, that’s all I’m asking.”
David’s hustle and gumption caught the eye of passersby, including Twitter user @jaysc0, who shared a photo of him online, writing: “Today I saw this young homeless man asking for people to take a resume rather than asking for money. If anyone in the Silicon Valley could help him out, that would be amazing.”

In less than 24 hours, the photo was shared over 50,000 times. Since going viral, the 26-year-old says he has gotten hundreds of job offers.
“Google reached out to me,” he told The Post. “So many other companies. Pandora. A bunch of startups. A product manager from Bitcoin.com was wondering if I could work remotely or if I want to relocate to Tokyo,” the 26-year-old revealed, in awe.
Since going viral, David has thanked his supporters for their help.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming amount of support you have given me! No amount of good deed on my part could ever repay that debt. [sic]”
