Seventeen-year-old Daniel Rivas was excited to attend his high school’s homecoming dance.
There was only one problem, however. He didn’t have a date.
The teen, who had Down Syndrome, had asked a girl to be his date, but he was, unfortunately, rejected. Luckily, that’s when Kylie Fronius stepped in.
When Kylie heard Daniel needed a date, she immediately stepped up and asked him to homecoming.
“I don’t think of kids that have a disability as being different,” she told Fox5 Las Vegas.
“I think of them just being a normal person learning in a different way.
Daniel’s mother Tonya was touched and flabbergasted by the girl’s kindness.
“It’s not about that Daniel has a disability,” she said.
“It’s Kylie didn’t see any disability. That is what your heart wants as a mom.”
When Fox5 News caught wind of the story, they featured the teens in a broadcast that won over thousands of hearts.
“All you had to do was watch the news story you [Fox] aired, and you just saw a young lady with a huge heart, and she was inspirational,” said Don Foreman of United Nissan.
What the teens didn’t know, however, was that the station was also planning a giant surprise.
On the night of their homecoming dance, Kylie and Daniel were greeted by Monica Jackson, host of the Fox5 Surprise Squad.
Jackson and the squad had planned a series of surprises to help make the night one the two kids would never forget. First, the team sent a Rolls Royce so the couple could ride to the dance in style. “Your story touched so many people,” Jackson told them.
Before the dance, the squad organized a dinner date at a high-class, local bistro.
Daniel’s mom Tonya breaks into tears, revealing she had never been able to afford to take her family to eat there.
When the kids get to the dance after their meal, they’re stunned to discover a red carpet waiting to lead them into the school.
Daniel and Kylie dance to the music for a while until the event is interrupted. “We’re not done,” Jackson announces, appearing on the auditorium stage.
First, Jackson gifts the teens and their families two free trips to Disney Land.
But, as you’ll soon discover, the station was just getting started.
Since being uploaded to YouTube, Fox’s amazing surprise has been viewed 4.8 million times. You’re immediately touched by Kylie’s kindness and the video just gets better from there.
“All I can see is that this girl was raised real well. God bless her beautiful heart.”
“She has more class, moral fiber, and integrity than I’ve had in 54 years of life. Her only negative point is, she made me cry.”
“This is amazing. I watched this with tears in my eyes. We need more of this in the world.”
