Have you found yourself bored during this pandemic? If you have, you are not alone. Penn Holderness has found himself bored at home and wanted to let the world know about it. He might have been “Born in the USA” but he has now become “Bored in the USA” and needed to sing about it. Do you think Bruce Springsteen is bored in the USA too?

Find out if you have picked up any of the hobbies that Penn has this year to try and occupy his time.

2020 has become the year of learning how to bake bread. Yeast has become one of the harder grocery list items to be found. That is because everyone is learning how to bake bread. The real go-getters tried to make sourdough! Penn got tired of baking bread, so he decided to grow a garden. That is another venture that many have tried to take on this year.

Have you tried to bake bread or make your own garden?

Penn has changed the chorus to the classic song to,

“Bored in the USA

Now I am bored in the USA

I can’t watch baseball or NBA

There’s baseball in Korea, not the USA”

One area that everyone has felt personally, is having no new TV to watch. Penn sings about finishing all his TV shows and almost everyone can relate to that struggle. Since he watched all his own TV programs, he has started watching shows he does not even enjoy, just to pass the time.

Have you watched a TV show that you would not have normally watched during normal times? Penn’s was Fixer/Upper and Hannah Montana.

Penn starts to sing about the struggle all parents have been going through, how to entertain their kids 24/7.

Parents had to become teachers overnight and also have had to be their number one source of entertainment. That struggle has been real for all parents, no matter how well their kids behave. Penn’s two children, Lola and Penn, look very unimpressed with their dad’s ideas, such as paper maché.

Penn sings of the struggles,

“This week the most exciting thing

Was fitting all the boxes in recycling.

Days redundant and so long

Kind of like the music in this song

Bored in the USA

Bored in the USA

I’m bored in the USA

We gotta stay six feet away

So I’m bored in the USA”

Penn talks about how 4th of July will even be different with cities cancelling many of their firework shows. He tries to buy his children sparklers, but they are still very unimpressed with their dad’s version of fun. Sparklers are no where near the excitement of a planned firework show, but hey, at least their father is trying.

Parents all over the country are trying their best to make the best of everyday, the struggle is real.

Penn’s parody is a fun three minute getaway from life. It is always better to know that everyone might be a bit separated but we are all going through the same thing, even baking bread and growing a garden. Penn ends his video with a quick PSA about the TV show “Fixer/Upper.” He knows that the show is beloved and does not want all their fans to come after him for calling it boring, ha!
