Sadly, it can be a very dangerous world out there. Gone are the days of leaving your front door unlocked, the car keys under your visor, and trusting everyone’s gonna use the honor system.
People will go to great lengths to keep their property safe, like installing cameras and alarm systems. There are others, however, whose security ideas are downright hilarious!
If you’re looking for a good laugh, look no further than the 14 fails below. Just remember, following in these people’s footsteps isn’t recommended if you want to stay safe, or just don’t want to look silly.
1. A door code everyone can see
What is the point of having a door with a coded entrance if you are just going to put the code on a sign in the window? It doesn’t make much sense, but really, most of these security fails don’t make much sense…
2. No bears allowed
It looks like the bear didn’t read the sign. It says no bears permitted in the dumpster. Unfortunately, relying on a bear to read a sign is a pretty bad technique for keeping bears from climbing in.
3. When you really, really like a certain dish
If you are sick and tired of other people using your mug, why not just lock it to the rack? That’s what this person did. We’re not sure if it is ingenious or just plain crazy.
4. Useless gate
This community just installed a new security gate to make sure no one who is unauthorized enters. Judging by the tracks in the grass though, it doesn’t seem to be working very well. Everyone just drives around.
5. He had one job to do
The security guard put up a life-size photo of an alert security guard with a shotgun in front of him so he could take a nap. We’re sure that no one will notice. It looks very realistic.
6. Store it high
One way to keep your bike secure is to hang it up so high off of the ground that no one can reach it. The only problem is how they are going to get it down if they ever want to ride it. It seems like a big hassle.
7. Handy handcuffs
It turns out, handcuffs are multi-purpose. They can be used to lock up bikes as well. It’s not very traditional, but it works, so why not?
8. Deadbolt fail
It’s important to lock the front gate when leaving the house. Although, this lock isn’t going to do much good. Someone could just reach right through the bars and undo it.

9. Taking extra precaution
This seems like an interesting way to lock the door. The car has a chain with a padlock threaded between the front door window and the back door. Using the standard locking mechanism of the car is just not secure enough.
10. Entrance denied
They got the red X on the gate so they weren’t allowed to enter. They’ll have to find a different way to get in now. We wonder what they will do…

11. Being careful at the ATM
Using an ATM at night isn’t recommended. However, no one is going to mess with this woman. She’s got two vicious dogs at her side to protect her.
12. Scary entrance
One way to keep people from entering a door is to install it off of the ground in the middle of a wall. Although, it also makes it hard to exit the building through it. If you aren’t careful, you could end up falling multiple stories.
13. A Polaroid camera?
“Stop littering, you’re on my camera,” the sign reads. It points to an old Polaroid camera attached to the roof. There are definitely a few issues with the setup.
14. Pick a lock
There has to be a better way to secure the gate than using six different locks. If you unlock just one lock, the gate is able to be opened. Whoever designed the system failed big time.
These people might have missed the mark when it comes to security – but at least they gave us all a really good laugh.
