A high school prom is an awaited tradition that most high schoolers look forward to when they become juniors and seniors. Some girls start preparing for their prom even years before with the perfect dress, perfect date, and perfect entrance.
Even the boys look forward to asking out the girls they like to prom. And some of the seniors use this tradition to finally ask out the girl of their dreams before they all part ways.
There was one high school senior from Watford City, North Dakota who did something unexpected and unusual.
But in order to do this right, Dakota Wollan had to ask her out. He had to make a great prom-posal.
Dakota was given a 1958 Ford truck by his great-grandmother that he got running again. And he was going to use it to ask out his future date to the prom. He even had a sign.
“Can I take you to prom in this old truck?” he wrote on the sign.
Dakota was so nervous to ask his date.
“If she would have said no, I wouldn’t have gone, but thanks to her, I got to make a memory for my last prom and her first prom,” Dakota said.
Do you want to know who this special lady is?
It’s his 92-year-old great-grandmother, Madeline Miller.
Grandma Madeline was not able to attend her own high school prom so she was absolutely thrilled when her great-grandson invited her to his last ever high school prom. Although, she did admit it was a very unusual decision.
“I was just wondering why he would want a 92-year-old going to prom with him when so many young girls are at the school,” Grandma Madeline recalled.
Dressed in a silver-grey coat with a white tie, Dakota proudly took his great-grandmother, wearing a beautiful lacy lilac dress, to his high school prom.
“Walking beside my great-grandson, listening to the music as we walked, and people clapping and hollering were some of the best moments,” Grandma Madeline shared.
It’s such a wonderful feeling for both of them to see other people celebrate with them.
“We went out on the floor and everybody just went wild,” Dakota added.
And Dakota’s family loved what he did for their family matriarch.
“Not everyone can say that they went to prom for the first time at 92 years old but my great grandma can. My cousin Dakota and great grandma Madeline went to prom together and they both looked like they were having the time of their life! This is a memory that will last a lifetime!,” Briana Wollan, Dakota’s cousin, had to share on her Facebook with lots of prom photos.
Interviewed by KFYR-TV, the interview said they were the stars of the night and Grandma Madeline proudly said, “Yes.”
People who watched the news interviews and saw Brianna’s post loved the gesture, too, and wished they could have done the same for their own grandparents.
